Was diagnosed with a 3cm tumour in bowel in Nov been on chemo tablets and radiotherapy  3 times a week. Had 4 weeks scan not shrinking lost my hair through chemo, it sucks. I had 4 week break from chemo just had another scan results still not shrunk but not grown or spread.

I'm sick of everyone telling me to stay positive I just feel angry Md want to cry.

  • Hi  and welcome to the board. If you want to cry then go and have a good cry - it often feels better after. A lot of people hate the ‘stay positive’ comment - it’s usually well meant but often said by people who’ve not been in your shoes. It’s frustrating that there’s no shrinkage and seems unfair when you’ve been through so much but no growth or spread is better than an increase in size or spread.
Can I ask what stage your cancer is at? Is it in any other organs at the minute? Is the tumour operable as it stands now?
Cancer is tough both mentally and physically and you’ll veer from determined to angry to self pity and they’re all acceptable - do what you need to do to get through this and keep posting - we’re happy to listen if you want to vent or send virtual hugs if they’re needed too

    Take care

Hi Karen, I am stage 1 size of a grape, approx  apparently  the tumour has to be a certain  size before operation can be done.

The hospital  want to change my Chemo and yp my radiotherapy.

Can you live with a tumour ifb itss not growing or spread.

  • Hi . Well I didn’t know there was a minimum operation size? I don’t know how long you could live with a tumour and you’d need a lot of regular scans to keep an eye on it id have thought. I had 5 weeks of radiotherapy mon -friday with chemo (capecitabine) in tablet form - it shrank my tumour from 4cm to 1 cm. Is this what they’re going to try next?

  • Hi   stage 1 is really positive. When you say bowel cancer what is the tumour location ?  If rectal needing shrinkage makes sense, if in colon I’d be getting a second opinion.
what chemo did they give you ? Capox ?
good you landed here everyone is really helpful.

  • How old are you  ? I certainly wouldn’t be looking at no Tx for a.stage 1 cancer ( unless you are about 85 years old …. That’s an arbitrary choice of number peeps Stuck out tongue winking eye

  • Hi Bargain Booze

Your comment stay positive resonates with me. I had that , the smile and oh aren’t you doing well.
No one is positive all the time unless they’re on something. It’s hard and you have a lot to process.
    Im sending you a hug
