The subject sounds like a bad band name but given the time of year I’m keen to understand peoples experiences.
My husband likes the odd drink, a glass of wine or G&T. He ran it by his oncologist who said it was fine. Since the CAPOX he’s found he just can’t keep it in though. Last night he had a little red wine and had to empty his bag 4 times. He took a couple of Imodium in the night - he’s been taking them on and off since the Cap tablets started. The alcohol really doesn’t seem to like to stay in his system since the Cap tablets and even on his week off it’s the same?
He was fine drinking wine or G&T with the stoma before, he only has a couple, no adverse effects. Just wondering if others have had similar experiences? And sharing for those tempted by a glass or two at Christmas!
Hi SarahSerena,
I was going through CAPOX with an ileostomy two Christmases ago. Although I normally drink regularly, beer and red wine, I decided not to. My oncologist also said a little wouldn't hurt and I did have a little fizz on Christmas Day but by that time I wasn't interested in anything, food or drink!
My advice would be to use the loperamide and take one or two half an hour before he eats or drinks rather than after. That was the advice I was given if I had too runny an output normally.
Hope he is coping ok with the treatment, all the best for Christmas
John
