Hi All

so after having right hemicolectomy 3 weeks and 2 days ago on 13/11/21 have spoke to oncologist today and commencing chemo ( all bloods being normal ) on 17/12/21

was planning on visiting my grandchildren and daughter the day after for weekend ( she lives 3 hours away)

i take it it would be stupid to do this trip now ?

Any advice, help words of wisdom greatly appreciated.

  • Why don't you ask to delay the start? A few days will not make a difference to the chemo, but will give you a big mental boost!

Agree with asking to delay it if possible. You will likely start to feel side effects at the end of the first IV and then continue as the days progress, nothing awful but it will probably not be great when you’re trying to enjoy family time, I really wouldn’t combine the two. See if you can start chemo next week, once you’ve had your first cycle you’ll know what to expect from it.

  • Which regime are they putting you on ?
Glad to hear you  are moving forward

also from research I’ve done — (doesn’t make it correct mind you)

starting chemo best benefits starting 2 weeks post op ( who manages that in the real world;)

    4-6 weeks sill beneficial

Post 8 weeks not as beneficial

    might help your decision making.
