Hello, please accept my apologise with posting this but I'm getting a tad worried about possibly having bowel cancer and was wondering if anybody else had experienced some of my symptoms and could clarify some things please. I have had cancer before when I was 24 (right sided testicular cancer, I had 4 tumours) so I am a cancer survivor, however, recently I've been experiencing some worrying symptoms, on the right side of my stomach there's some kind of swelling, as if the subcutaneous fat and muscle wall is pushed further outward so my stomach is very uneven, it's also firmer than the left side, I've had a lot of wind, I've been having to use the loo a lot more and have been getting a dull ache which sometimes gets sharper in the side of my stomach, I've had dizziness and I'm tired quite a lot, I've had a FIT test which came back negative but I'm aware that it's not always a guaranteed thing that there will be blood. Has anybody had any similar experiences and later had a diagnosis?

Thank you for your time, have a nice day.

  • Hi . Could it be a hernia? And the wind and extra toilet visits could be caused by the worry? Bowel cancer has a lot of symptons that can also be attributed to other conditions but the best person to talk to is your doctor. I’ve attached a link to something that might help you record your symptons leading up to your appointment

Hope you’re able to get an appointment and please let us know how you get on

    Take care

  • Hi Stubacca

With the benefit of hindsight I would always be cautious re FiT results  I have done them every 2 years since about 2015. All negative until this year.  The subsequent colonoscopy showed a 4.5cm tumour that had probably been there 5-10years but no symptoms. It was only my last FIT in sept that came back positive so  I wish I’d had a colonoscopy earlier just as a precaution and maybe it would have been caught as stage 1 or T2 instead of T3 and no chemo needed

if you have any doubts I’d just ask for a colonoscopy just to settle your mind.
that  said maybe your GP can look further into possible hernia which sounds more likely from your description. hopefully that’s the more likely scenario.
Wishing you a good result :)

Thank you for your response, I've had an ultrasound that showed no hernia, which is why I'm a tad more concerned as I can completely appreciate the symptoms are similar to that, I'm having more bloods next week to check for anaemia and a few other bits and bobs, the doctors have said that subcutaneous fat is the most likely suspect, but I justnhave that worrying feeling, last time I was told I was too young to have cancer in 2014 (I was 24) and that it couldn't be cancer because testicular cancer causes swelling and mine shrank, as it turned out, I did, and I just have this sinking feeling again. Thank you for your response and help.

Hello, thank you for your response, I've had an ultrasound and there were no signs of hernia, the doctors have suggested it's just extra subcutaneous fat which Is causing the issues and it's possible that you're correct regarding the worrying, I've just got this odd feeling about it, like last time, I was told I was too young to have cancer and it turns out they were wrong Joy
