I had a colonoscopy recently and a 15mm polyp was removed. Results day I was informed it was cancerous.  The next day the colorectal nurse had to talk me through what had been said during the appointment,  the only thing I'd taken in was cancer.  Luckily after a CT scan I learned  it  hasn't spread anywhere else.  I have to have my Sigmoid colon removed in January.

My head was in a whirl at first with lots to take in, feeling a lot calmer now though.  Have an appointment to speak to the consultant tomorrow to find out exactly what is going to happen. Will I need chemotherapy? How long is the recovery time?

  • Hi linda

sorry to hear this news, no one really knows till after surgery and do staging of secondary treatment needed once histology is vack after surgery they will let you know if it’s finished then or adjuvant chemo needed my journey similar advised no spread but after operation have been advised chemo, it depends if it’s gone to lymph nodes or not, hope this helps

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me too. As Linda says they won’t know for definite until after your histology results are back although they may sometimes suspect if there is lymph node involvement or not. No spread is good news though so focus on the operation for now and cross the chemo bridge later if you get to it.

Recovery is generally 4-6 weeks and I’ve attached a link to a booklet below which you may want to have a quick look at before your appointment?
