Mucin found in appendix after appendectomy
I had an laparoscopic appendectomy 18th September and was told it was necrotic appendicitis that luckily hadn't ruptured and was sent home to recover. 6 weeks later I got a phone all from a colorectal nurse telling me they found mucin in my appendix so have sent it to The Christie for further tests and I need to come in for a abdominal CT scan but try not to worry. I went for my scan yesterday and they didn't tell me anything there.
The last few weeks I have had uncomfortable feelings on the right and left side of my abdomen and some stabbing pains that I just put down to recovery after surgery but now I'm worried its some type of cancer.
Has anyone else been through this and can tell me what they think might be going on.
Thank you
similar experience i had apendisecoromy in May, it had ruptured but an abscess was formed, had surgery and recovered abs never heard anything else, however still had pains and tiredness 5 months later and pushed for follow up i kept being fobbed off by my GP, eventually went private and after colonoscopy found i had cancer ( which they now say caused the appendix) had surgery 2 weeks ago ( right hemicolectomy) saw consultant friday and now referred to oncologist for follow up chemotherapy
we are all different and don’t want to scare you however but jost thought i would share.
Thank for replying. Sorry you are going through what you are.
I like to know what all the options might be so them not telling me what they think properly is doing my head in more. I'd rather know what the best and worst case scenarios are and everything in between than not have a clue what they are thinking.
What type of cancer have they said you have? xx
Hi diagnosed with bowel cancer in caecum the tumour was covering the orifice of appendix, from what i believe the histology from appendix didn’t show anything sinister bit here i am 5 months later dealing with this diagnosis.
i hope that you have a better outcome please keep me informed how you get on, it’s the not knowing, when is your CT scan? my CT scan didn't show anything bit it was on colonoscopy o was diagnosed.
please let me know how you get on when is your scan ?
I had a CT scan with contrast on Thursday at my local hospital. They didn't say anything there just that they will send the images to the christie and they will be in touch with the results 'soon' so fingers crossed I know more in the next week or so.
They did say no tumors had been found within my appendix it was the presence of the Mucin they were concerned with and the Internet doesn't bring up anything similar to my experience so far only people who are already diagnosed with different cancers.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
