How is it that when the economy is at risk all the scientists get together and come up with a vaccine to fight a new virus, we have some of the best scientists in the world but despite getting millions in donations they cannot come up with a cure for cancer, but then cancer does not threaten the economy, just a thought

Hi Farfar
i said the exact same thing to my son the other day.
Having 10 immediate family members die of various cancers , I find it really hard to believe there’s no cure.
As you said a vaccine created in under a year for covid that can stop you dying.
But still nothing to beat cancer.
Some companies are making billions from cancer treatments .
Food for thought.
Hope you well
best wishes
It seems so complex with so many cell types not to mention slow but I totally agree any collective wisdom to push this along could only be a good thing but then cancer is not infectious !
But it has passed through my mind a few times .
Hope your doing ok !

Hi court
I myself have been diagnosed lwith cancer also my husband in Feb this year so as a family we are all devastated at the moment.
As I said many of my family members including my mother and father died of cancer to which my children were devastated losing their grandparents to this awful disease. They have never recovered emotionally from them passing away, and now there watching their own mum and dad suffer.
I am absolutely beside myself for them for what they’re going through.I myself also never recovered from losing my mum and dad too.
I hope I haven’t offended anyone with my comment as I have the upmost respect for every single doctor nurse and any health professional and volunteers that give there all to try and make it easier and better for anyone suffering from this disease.
best wishes
Not at all Waffledog that is a lot to endure for yourself and your family . I read a while back that it takes about ten years to trial some drugs . Not sure if that’s true and I have little knowledge about the scientist side of research but 12 years after my mum’s diagnosis I was hoping for a bit more progress . Some has been made in the last five years but it’s a long way off in some aspects .
My own mum is currently participating in some research on long term survival . They are looking at her original tumour , her blood and stool samples .
It is very frustrating.
I am So sorry to read of your own situation . Are you currently having treatment?
Take care ,

Hi court
Thanks for info it’s like you say it does seem frustrating at times with what they have to try and how long it takes.
I am feeling down a bit at the moment, I’m just waiting to get phone call in the next week for a date to have tumour from bladder removed.
it’s been a bit up and down with communication mainly due to pandemic.
Also my GP surgery are under pressure so only had one 10 minute phonecall.
Hopefully I’ll hear soon.
Best wishes to your mum and say a big thank you from me.To help in that way is truly amazing and brave.
Thanks
That’s a difficult stage to be at , waiting for things to align and get the treatment you require .
I am very confused regarding the GP situation . My Gp has been seeing my parents in person when required . Seems so dependent on your actual GP . I like that minor things are through a phone call but some really important issues need to be seen in person .
Hope you get news soon .
Take care ,

Hi moi2
Hope you are well.
I again had another uti infection on Friday,
I phoned doctors as I was in a lot of pain. They did phone back but again no face to face just prescribed yet another antibiotic.
The last face to face I had was March 2020.
maybe different areas are working differently but I really feel let down that even after cancer diagnosis they still haven’t seen me.
Take care and best wishes
Hi, Waffledog, I agree, but it comes down to money I think in the end. There has to have been billions thrown at the covid vaccine, as it affects everyone. But it seems there might be a spin off from this mRNA vaccine work, for some cancers. Take care
Edited to add, as I forgot!! I was offered to go on a trial when I was doing chemo, so once that had stopped I did. Thought it wouldn't hurt me, but may help others. Its the Add Aspirin trial.
