Hi everyone
I have just had the great news that I will be having the reversal operation on the 22 December. However, remembering the pain that I was in after my operation due to constipation (caused, I guess, by the pain killer) i was wondering what the best course of action would be. Is there a strong pain killer that doesn't cause constipation? OR should i take the pain killers & also take a laxative? if so, is there a recommended laxative?
I am glad you are having your reversal but I find your wifes comment(even if in jest) very upsetting, especially for all the people who will never be able to have a reversal. And in fact lead perfectly happy normal lives.
My husband said that after my reversal .I replied that he talks bigger than I do It's a case of you will get to know when you're safe to travel You will get to know when to go .I've got a well belly where the reversal was done and it swells up (that's my Bowel f
ling up ) You will get use to it No Pain so don't worry about that . 4 weeks after I'm We went on a weekend away 4 hour drive and I even had a bucket in the car .
( Didn't use it) You have got to use your sense of humour and say positive ..
Did you get a card from the supplier that states That they were to let you use the toilet due th Medical Issues ?.All the best Spondulix .

Thanks Alaine - that's reassuring.
Yes, I've got a card which gives me priority to use the loo. Not had to use it so far though.
Never used it either .I have wondered what would have happened with the Covid19.and all the toilets were closed
Scrambled eggs yesterday and big mistake ...9 months later and I'm still finding out what's.Safe or not. ..x

Yes Chocoblanc, my experience I would agree with you, the operation impact is quite significant. Initially I was lead to believe this would be a quick recovery, the suggestion of day surgery pre-op should be removed from the documentation in my opinion. I had my reversal 11th Oct and it was 6 days before I was allowed to get home after opening my bowels, another patient who went in on the same day was expecting 14 days in hospital. Week 8 - I still get cramps and stitch like pains but not so frequent, I'm trying to keep active but can only walk a short distance about 5 mins or so. I was trying to base recovery times and abilities following from my resection but it's not the same. I had 11 months between initial resection and reversal in which I started cycling weekly and got up to 40 km to improve fitness, mental health and support a better recovery. I got on the bike about 6 weeks after my resection, I'm hopeful to start again late January which will be closer to 15 weeks. Last time around I found one of the painkillers in hospital contributed to dark colour and constipation so I kept away from that this time in hospital.
Spondulix Good luck on your journey and thank you for posting
It's 10months since I had my reversal operation and everything is getting better .You will won't get back to the way you were before your old self .You will come out of this a new you Toilet habit change and eating full meals will differ. This is not a bad thing in any means..I was in hospital for 4 weeks after my operation but I'm well now.
Take it easy over Christmas and remember what you have just been through .Give you bowls a chance to recover ..Your bowls does not like interference and you will know when it's time to go to the tlet
.

Thanks for that. I'm just worried that "they" might say, after the CT scan etc. that i cannot have the reversal op because my stomach has got bigger & I have stabbing (not too painful) pains. how can the surgeon manage to stuff it all back in, not to put too fine a point on it? if i cannot have the reversal op I guess that's ok. I know lots of people manage ok with that. let's hope the food in hospital isn't too bad!
