My mum's been diagnosed with colon cancer, still seems unbelievable.. yesterday she had quite abit of bleeding, which did stop after abit.. but it made me think what she has got to go through, I lost my dad who had a rare form of parkinsons 2 years ago and I had a couple of breakdowns after!! I watched him suffer and now my mum. I will be strong in front of her no matter how hard like I was for my dad.. but I'm dreading it has I don't really know what will happen has she gets worse..

  • Its early days for you and your mum, this is the worst time! But once you have a plan it gets easier. Stay on here and ask whatever you want, or need to. Someone is bound to help. Sending big (((hugs))) to you both.

  • Thank you gemmary for your reply..she was diagnosed about 5 week ago. They aren't operating and she won't be having chemotherapy has they think she's too vulnerable she's 81.. they've graded  it has a 2 or 3 ... hope you are ok xx

  • Hi

Are you looking for more information to help prepare ?

I think Marie Curie has some good information.
Hope the bleed was not too bad and your mum recovering .

Bowel cancer can be slow growing so it could be quite hard to predict timescales .

    Hope your ok today .

I've been thinking of you Leb. We seem to be travelling through an emotional minefield at the moment. My mum is having surgery right now and I don't know what to do with myself.  I'm sorry to hear about your father. My grandfather had Parkinson's and I remember how difficult it was to watch his deterioration. I'm amazed by the amount of support there is for cancer sufferers though (from Macmillan, the NHS and others) - it's very well thought through at the hospital. I'm sure you'll have someone helping you cope every step of the way.

    • Hi anndol. Thinking of you too, my mum was told they could do a op but the percentage of certain things is above average and one where she might need full care in a home after surgery is over 50% which is above average because of her vulnerability.. or leave things has they are and let the cancer progress till eventually it will be fatal.. its on the right side of her bowel.. now I've seen the letter from the doctors with the percentage of everything I don't know whether for her to go for the operation.. its just her going in a home after and needing care if she does come home!! I'm all confused now, I don't want her to go in a care home though after... we have her gp ringing Friday has they've be informed now. I pray everything goes well with your mum and I am thinking of you both. I've only really spoke to you and a couple of others on here at the moment..here if you need to talk xx
