Seems a long time since July 16th when I was diagnosed with colon cancer.HAR 31st Aug ,biopsy stage 3 , subsequent scans CT and MRI confirm 14 mm tumour on liver but nothing else.Just Started 6 rounds of Folfox for 3 months and Oncologist hopes to shrink what there and then potentially operate…Not sure if I should be optimistic.Any success stories with removing a secondary liver tumour??
Hi Macc
The wonderful thing about the liver is it’s size and robustness . To put that into context my mum had five mets , one definitely 5cm . The following year she had another five . They were able to take 73% of her liver away at a centre of excellence as segments 1 to 3 were clear .
Your tumour burden sounds significantly lower than that but having chemo I think played a big part in her long term recovery in terms of dealing with any micro disease . Although I will be honest surgery sounded like a better option to me at the time . 12 years later her liver has remained clear for 10 years . It regenerates and despite being a very odd shape now functions well .
I hope that gives you some encouragement.
How are you finding chemo ?
take care ,
