Just wondering if anyone has tried Probiotics after colon surgery? I had a tumour removed from my lower colon (and a piece on the right side of the colon) a year ago and had a Stoma. Then 3 weeks ago i had the reversal surgery. I am still having very liquid output and can't always hold it in. So I am housebound. Wondering if Probiotics could help??
Hi Chocoblanc
Not sure about it’s role with regard to output but my mum is taking part in a long term survival research and they asked a lot about probiotics!! She takes them now but not for the reasons you are looking for !

Hi Chocoblanc,
I had LAR in January with temporary stoma. I’m presently waiting for reversal surgery.
There seems to be mixed messages regarding whether you should have ‘live’ yoghurt during chemotherapy. I wasn’t told I couldn’t have it and my ‘chemo brain’ didn’t register it might have harmful consequences.
I started having it regularly just after my 5th cycle which actually turned out to be my last (the 6th cycle was cancelled due to proctitis). I’ve had it almost daily since with blueberries and I do notice a difference in ‘not feeling right’ if I miss a few days, although I appreciate that could be my subconscious! I’ve not suffered with diarrhea and my digestion and stoma copes with everything I throw at them! I also got my energy and stamina back quite quickly after stopping chemotherapy and having probiotic yoghurt. Now, as there wasn’t another me not having the probiotics I don’t know how I would have fared without, so it could just be coincidence.
Might be worth a try? But either way, I hope your'e soon coping well with your reversal - I understand it can take a while to get control back and a new normal

Hi and thanks so much for your reply. I DON'T KNOW!!!!! I have started on Probiotics, Psyllium and yoghurt. Stools are better but still running to the loo a lot!! I think I have to go back to just rice and pasta and keep trying! I do wish they had given me even just a hint that it may take time. That would have helped. Thanks for your help - I just wish right now I could turn back time and have my lovely, easy-going Stoma back!!
