In my husbands extensive notes regarding his colon tumor I spotted this “Small bilateral millimetric liver cysts”.  Our next meeting is 5th Nov where I will ask about it although we are seeing the oncologist not the Gastro team.

Anyone know what it means and if we should be getting them checked out alongside everything being done for his bowel?

Sonetimes just all the wording makes you feel over your head xx

  • Hi

Sometimes the medical jargon can cause lots of confusion I find. This doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about - it is part of the NICE guidelines that any incidental cysts seen on scans need to be reported too. My Mum had similar that was mentioned on her notes but no further action was needed. If it needed further investigation then they would have organised further tests etc

But still worth bringing up with your oncologist for peace of mind anyway.

Thank you so much! I do have faith in the specialist teams as they have all been so good, but they don’t explain everything to us and when you see words like cysts referring to organs I naturally worry as to why it’s mentioned. My husband is 55 so I guess it’s normal to have a couple of cysts on the liver at that age. Thanks for your help and I hope your mum is ok xx

  • I think they can tell by the shape too ! I think cysts can look quite different ! They frequently do MRi s to be on the very safe side ! Cancer patients get gold star scanning ! I do feel for them though as it can be an anxiety spike but many people go through this with the liver just to officially rule them out !

Totally agree with you , as we hit our 50s there has got to be things inside as there are outside !

    Have a good day !
