Hi there.
Recently finished five weeks of chemo / radio therapy and now waiting 10 weeks or so before the next lot of scans (and the lovely movicol!!!!!!)
Anyway, I have been on a low residue diet for a few months and have tried to get to see a dietitian but have been given an urgent appointment of 15th of December!.
May try the Macmillan nurses tomorrow to see if they have advice for supplements etc.
My problem for the last few days have been cravings for crisps or chocolate. When I say cravings I mean cravings.
Has anyone else had these? My weight is quite level and my exercising is slowly increasing the less fatigued I feel.
Just wondering if this is my body screaming for calories etc seeing as I dont put hardly any veg and fruit in.
Just a point of interest I have been eating hula hoops or baked crisps and the chocolate tend to be the snack size so tha calories aren't "too bad" but still the power of these craving have surprised me today especially.
Thanks
KEv
Hi MinionKev. Hmm you would think your body would be craving the fruit and veg that it’s not having wouldn’t you? I’ve always loved chocolate so I would be more worried if I wasn’t fancying it! I craved tasty things like pies, chicken tikka pieces, crisps etc. After my reversal I had a Cornish pasty - although that turned out to be a mistake - and I was like Paddington bear when I could have marmalade on my toast!
To be honest a bag of crisps or bar of chocolate will probably make you feel like you’re having a treat and you need to be nice to yourself during all this treatment. I found I dropped a lot of weight quite rapidly after surgery so, as long as your bmi is still acceptable, putting on a couple of extra lbs wouldn’t be too detrimental.
Its a shame your appointment with the dietician is so far off but, like you say, you can always ring the nurses on here
Take care
