Good morning all,
I posted a while ago as my local surgeon refused to operate on my liver leaving me with very limited options. I asked for a second opinion so my Onc referred me to Basingstoke. They have reviewed my case and I'm off to Basingstoke on 18th for an MRI, CT and chat with the surgeon. No guarantee he will be able to do anything but it's a positive step.
Can anyone think of anything I should be asking when I'm there?
I also paid for a private consultation, who said my liver resection would be difficult but not impossible and would be done in 2 stages.
If anyone is contemplating asking for a second opinion, go for it!
Xx
Hi Star74
Just the one question ! How is your theatre diary looking ?
Just delighted to read this !
Sounds very promising and whilst I know it’s good to protect your emotions during this part of the process also be prepared that if they agree it can move forward very quickly . I know you have children to factor in. My mum has had three surgeries after similar requests and she was literally in theatre with ten days of each one !
This sounds much more thorough and pulling in a better direction !
Well done in getting to a more specialist centre !
Have a good day !

Lol, court love that questions, I will def ask him!
Thanks so much, your support means so much. Oh my goodness, it would be amazing if it all goes well and I could be in before the end of the month! I was thinking surely it would be soon if it goes ahead otherwise if its left too long they would just need to scan me again.
Still a long way to go but definitely going in a better direction just keeping everything crossed he can do something and there are no new nasties in the next couple of weeks!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, I will update again after the meeting.xx
That sounds good news Star74,
I hope you are accepted for surgery. I have been in touch with Basingstoke also last week. I have liver mets apparently, seen on my last scan beginning of Sept. Saw my oncologist last week and she said nothing could be done just offered me Lonsurf pills to prolong life. I was booked in for HIPEC and cytoreduction at the end of August under Mr Moran but never got there due to needing emergency surgery at the end of June at my own hospital, for an ovarian tumour twisted around my ovary causing it to be gangrenous. I have never had pain like it. I am not sure if I will be able to go to Basingstoke now but I want a chance, even if it is a slim one.
Good luck with your apt. He is a lovely man. I would just ask about the surgery and how soon it can be done. Have you had chemo recently? He requested me to have it first.
Xx
Hi thanks for your reply. So sorry to hear of your situation, it must have really knocked you to be booked in for HIPEC and then not making it due to emergency surgery.
Wish you well with Basingstoke, fingers crossed they can do something for you, from what I've heard it seems to be a place that if they can help, they will. Stay positive hun.
Yes, I've had about 7 months of chemo, good shrinkage, too good in places apparently as some tumours no longer visible. So, we'll see what he says, keeping everything crossed.
Take care, Michelle xx
Thanks Star74, that is great news. So good to hear your treatment is working. I don't think I stood a chance with my oncologist to be honest. I haven't had all the chemo I needed and with such a long break I think it came back. So scary to think I will have pain like I had with my ovarian tumour, it was twisted round the ovary and caused gangrene. I could easily have died of septic shock. Horrible. Yes I was all prepared to have the HIPEC at the end of August but it was not to be and now I have liver mets I don't know what can be done. I have the KRAS cells which mean it is very aggressive and hard to treat apparently.
Wish me luck for my apt tomorrow. Dreading it really, but I will try and stay calm and positive. I have asked a lot of questions beforehand so hopefully they will be answered. I get struck dumb when I am in the room with the Dr and the CNS.

Hi hun, wishing you all the best for your appointment today, I will be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed.
I'm the same in appointments, my mind goes blank so that's good you had some questions prepared. Take a pen and paper with you too.
Please let me know how it goes. xx
