Hi everyone,
i have had ongoing bowel problems since i can remember. it became more prominent in my late 20's and I am now 38 years old. i had my gallbladder removed in February 2018 and straight away i was having faecal incontinence, bloating, wind and pain. It took my GP a year to refer me to gastro. They sent me for a colonoscopy in November 2018 where i had to have several polyps removed and was told they were benign and also diagnosed with diverticular disease.
i did my research and had discovered that i had Bile Acid Malabsorption and when i saw the gastro in March 2019, the test that is required (SeCHAT scan) was the first thing i requested. I received a diagnosis of severe bile acid malabsorption and prescribed bile binders in june 2019 and advised to follow a low fat diet. My problems persisted and the gastro team kept dismissing me. i had raised ALT levels at times which they could not explain. I also started experiencing difficulty swallowing and eating in October 2020 and they sent me for an endoscopy where they found what they presumed as a 10cm GIST in my stomach (gastro intestinal stromal tumour) tests can thick and fast and i was informed in December 4 days before christmas that it was focal nodular hyperplasia on my liver which was protruding into my stomach wall and not related to my symptoms. i kept persisting saying that i was now losing weight for no reason, opening my bowels up to 8 times a day with constant abdominal pain. i had a stool test and bloods in july this year which came back normal. i then managed to persuade my gastro to send me for another colonoscopy, due to polyps previously being removed in 2018 and the fact that i had had two flare ups of diverticulitis within 9 months. i had a colonoscopy on 27th August where two polyps were removed, but was informed there were two more which couldn't be removed as my colon was in spasms and it would need to be done under a general. I had a colonoscopy, polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection on 1tth September. i was told it was not in fact not 2, but 7 more polyps removed and that they had also found numerous sessile serrated adenomas in my colon which they would provisionally remove in March 2022 under a general by the same endoscopist.
I have my next consultation apt for the biopsy results on 7th october next week and i am so anxious. i know there is something going on other than my already diagnosed conditions. i am in constant pain with my stomach even though i have been eating low fat for 2 and a half years, and have been following the low FOPMAP diet for 9 weeks with no improvement.
has anyone had sessile serrated adenomas and they not be precancerous? any advice on how to calm myself down would be much appreciated TIA x
Hi Amotreacle, sorry I can’t help you much. Waiting for results is such an anxious horrible time. Have you spoken to your GP. I have been suffering badly from anxiety, I can’t seem to distract myself, but I try different breathing and look at healing and mindfulness on line.sending hugs Nelly55 xx
Hi Nelly thank you for your reply. My GP isn’t the greatest and don’t understand my current conditions. I was on antidepressants 3 years ago after my surgery and certainly don’t want to go back to taking them, as the CBT therapy I had did help massively. I am quite active and work out 4-5 days a week although currently struggling with fatigue but still push through as it gives me energy. Will definitely look up healing and mindfulness online thank you x
Hi Amotreacle, I am going in today to see a surgeon, love and kindness to us all Nelly 55 xx
Amotreacle what a nightmare! You have not been well served by your doctors, having to push them all the time. Sorry I have no answers, but unfortunately you will still have to keep on top of them to get the appropriate care. Good luck x
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Thank you seaspirit44There is way more that they have failed to do i.e. writing letters back to my GP discharging me when they had sent me for an endoscopy, not putting through a referral to a dietician in December when it was discussed during a consultation and not noted on my medical records and not seeing one until 7 months later etc. I had no other choice but to write to PALs and they have been amazing in getting me the tests that I was supposed to and appointments. At least my apt next week is face to face when I was promised a face to face one in May. Trying to keep myself busy with work and meeting friends tomorrow night which will lift my spirits x
