Hi

Not posted since I started chemo on 23 July. I started on oral Capecitabine 8 tablets of 500mg a day for 2 weeks with week off. Suffered side effects from first few days . I saw my lovely oncologist after second cycle and he took me off them for a rest. Said some people get some side effects but I've had a full house!

I've had 4 weeks off so far. He said my bowel was inflamed and having a rest from meds would be best. In the last 4 weeks my whole abdomen has swollen up and oncologist is not sure why and when he pressed on certain parts I nearly leapt off the bed ! He ordered an urgent ct scan of abdomen and pelvis with contrast which I'm having on Monday morning at 8 30...eek...followed by an appointment with him.

I am worried about what the scan might show up as I've had pain on the upper right side as well as everywhere else!

He has put my meds down by 25% when I start with them again which should ease the side effects.

Thanks for listening I am always reading what you other members of this lovely site are going through. Love and hugs to.you all

  • Hi Barbara. Just wanted to send you a big virtual hug and hope everything goes well with your scan and meeting on Monday. You’ve had a tough 12 months but it sounds like your team are keeping a close eye on you and hopefully the 25% reduction will make the chemo more tolerable?

Take care and please let us know how you get on?

  • Thanks Karen.

Yes the last 12 months have been the worst time ever. It will be a year in 7 weeks since my dear husband died of brain tumour and I still miss him terribly.

The tumour was identified as a high grade tumour which surgeon said will have grown in last 2 years. I do a fit test every 2 years but this came back clear 2 years ago.

I am worried about the scan and why my abdomen looks like I'm about to give birth !

Will let you know how I get on on Monday.

    Love to you xxx

  • I hope yr ct scan goes well tomorrow . I was on Capecitabine only and on cycle 2 ended up with stomach inflammation and admitted to hospital. I also had pain in my right upper side below my rib cage and huge bloat !! I was given iv antibiotics and had various scans . My inflammation markers were also high The ct confirmed inflammation in my stomach . So the diagnosis was a stomach infection . My oncologist reduced Capecitabine for cycle 3 to make sure it didn’t happen again - it didn’t ! .
i hope you feel better soon

  • Hi

    Thanks Karen and Takayasu

Had ct scan done and seen oncologist

The radiographer hadnt had time to do a report on scan but oncologist could see it on system.

Said the small bowel.was inflamed and would wait for report to be certain that there was nothing sinister on scan. Couldnt explain why I was so swollen.

Had bloods done...again.  my white cells had risen in last bloods I had 2 weeks ago.

Not putting me back.on meds.for at least another 3 weeks so that will be 7 weeks off them. Depending how I get on.with the reduced dose when I start again he might have to tweak dose again as I seem.to be susceptible to them!

I'm just thankful that he doesnt think anything nasty on scan.

Love to you all. Take care xxx

  • that’s good news well not the small bowel infection but the thinking it’s nothing nasty . My oncologist said my small bowel inflammation and infection was down to the Chemo . So hopefully with your reduction you will tolerate it better . I hope so , there’s enough ups and downs on chemo isn’t there !!!

  • Hi thought I would just give an update on things since I last posted.

Still not back on meds but see oncologist on Monday when I think he will be starting meds again on 22nd, a week on Friday.

Bowels seem to have settled down after weeks of running to the loo all day!!

I had phone call late Monday afternoon.to tell me that the ct scan.i had on 27th September showed I had.a blood clot at the top of my leg near the groin and was to get to the hot clinic at chemo unit for 9 o clock yesterday.  This was quite frightening to hear.

When I got there they told me I also had a blood clot at the bottom.of right lung. I asked if it was the hemicolectomy I had in June that had caused it or the chemotherapy.  Said they dont know but looks like I am prone to them.

I've been started on high dose fragmin injections for a month then 5 months at a regular dose.  As I am a bit of a wimp at needles there is no way i can.do them myself so district nurse coming again.like they did in after my op in June for a month. I know nurses well as they came to my husband a lot and were here with me when he passed away

It's a year on November 15 that my dear Chris passed away but I wouldnt have wanted him to see what I've been through this year.

Has anyone else on here had anything similar?

Sending love to everyone as they travel along their journey.
