Hello I'm new here would really like some advice please
Brief description my ot was diagnosed 5 yrs ago 2016 with rectal cancer and liver mets, had surgery temporary stoma, 2 liver resections, 6mths of folfox chemo, 2018 had lung resections due to met which was there at beginning began to grow ,2020 had radiotherapy due to lung mets one was mediastinal lymph nodes 2 disappeared mediastinal node slightly decreased has stayed the same up to now, had slight increase in CEA from 5 to 7 then 9 which in his case is usually a good indication that something is going on had CT in April and two more lung mets have popped up in right upper lobe 12mm and lowe right lobe 11mm . Dr called us in and basically said that it now its not possible to cure said no more radiotherapy and resections of lung I asked about ablation he was ok but need to do PET scan to make sure no more nasties are lurking PET scan showed nothing else only what we knew about in the lung, he was discussed in MDT and said that he can't have ablation apparently to much toxicity didn't even ask the lung team oncologist made this decision, said he will have to have chemo again Folfox and Panitumumab which I know that if you have a break from it you can't have it anymore due to funding! His cancer is a very slow progression we are told atm he's as fit as he's been for along time looks a picture of health, my question is do we take this as gospel or do I question why he cannot at least be eligible for ablation apparently I've heard that it's successful on tumours under 3cms which they are now. We haven't made any decisions yet because oncologist said to wait until next scan in October to see where we are at any advice would be appreciated, many thanks for reading this x
Hi
We actually find hearing another professionals opinion quite helpful. Either to hear that it is the correct path or to open up other approaches to consider ! Then an informed decision can be made !
Macmillan helpline could chat through the best way to go about this 0808 808 0000.
There is a ruling around panitumumab during covid which I think has relaxed the funding issue . I think I read that it applies until October !
You sound as though you both still have questions around this and getting them answered could give him more direction with his treatment !
My mum’s were very slow growing in the lung and it was one of the more tricky consultations similar to your situation she had quite a bit of experience with various consultants by that time .
