Hi,

I'm pretty new to all this! My husband had a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago, We got the results on Tuesday, and he has early bowel cancer which seems fixable with an operation only. I had such a mess to clear up after the prep for the colonoscopy I'm wondering if I need to equip ourselves with some plastic sheeting for the bed. Any advice gratefully received!

He went through throat cancer 14 years ago, and I had womb cancer 4 years ago, so we are well used to the terminology and tests, etc.

  • Hi, , in my experience you won't need the plastic!! But everyone is different. Mine was rectal, what is your husband 's one? I guess it might vary. Take care

  • Hi Gemmary,

We were drawn a picture, but I don't know what its called!! As you look at the body it was on the right side, maybe half way down!

  • Hi . I bought a ‘plastic’ mattress cover to put on after my reversal but never needed it (got it from Dunelm). The prep for the colonoscopy is like 2 litres of laxative so quite brutal but I don’t think he will have a similar experience during or after treatment.
In hospital they put little sheets under you for protection which are basically puppy training pads! - a decent size with a waterproof backing - and a lot cheaper than medical bed pads. I know another member used to wrap one around his tummy and tuck it into his boxer shorts if he felt a bit vulnerable on a night.

Good to hear that hubbys cancer has been caught early and hope he gets an operation date soon

    Take care

  • Thanks, Thats good to know.

  • I also used puppy training pads after my panproctocectomy.not all hot and sweaty like plastic sheeting, and gave a sense of security "just in case"easy to purchase and cheap too.

    All the best

  • Thanks, Katz,

I think I'll go for some of those, just in case.
