Hi,

Wondered what peoples experience of Neuropathy post oxaliplatin is.

I have tingling in hands and feet, also swelling fingers and legs more pronounced in left lower leg which also has altered sensation. I expected issues in hands and feet but not lower legs, anyone else experience this? Also had knee problems on one side, thinking it may be due to poor muscle tone post treatment.

Would like to hear others experience?

  • Hi . I have a bit of a loss of sensation in my lower legs and in the right more than the left. My feet feel permanently hot and swollen - almost like they’re sunburnt - and I sleep with them stuck out of the covers! I’m not sure if mine was caused by the capecitabine as it is more numbness than pins and needles (palmar plantar?) but it’s 4 years since I finished chemo so I’ve learned to live with it.

It can improve over time and I found reflexology to be helpful as well as a nice treat

    Take care

  • Hi .  I finished oxaliplatin around July after 12 cycles.  I still have tingling in my fingertips and toes and numbness in my legs around the shins.  The fingertips do seem to be getting better, or I'm just getting used to it! x

  • Hi Karen,

Thank you so much, i was prepared for numbness in feet & hands but not my lower legs. Did your hands & feet swell too? Its hard post chemo as you dont know what to expect

  • Hi Star74,

I know what you mean, i keep thinking the feeling in my fingers isn't as bad but its hard to tell. Do you get swelling too? When i first get up on a morning my feet feel rigid and i have difficulty walking, how about you?

    Xx

  • Yes, definitely worse first thing, takes a few steps to get moving!  No swelling that I've noticed though.  My feet feel like I'm walking on rough sand.  I find a hot water bottle helps.  Hopefully it will get better in time.

  • Thanks Michelle, its helpful to know how others feel

Hope all goes well for you!
