Hi all, I hope this is ok to post here as I haven't been diagnosed with cancer. I've been reading this forum for 2 weeks since my colonoscopy referral and hoping someone might have had a similar experience to me.
I'm a 26 y/o female. I've been having bright red rectal bleeding and orange mucus with stools for years, which I stupidly had not had checked out before. This year I began having a lot of stomach issues. I've had stomach bloating since February and continual lower and mid abdominal pain and vomiting episodes (which last between 24hrs-a week) since March.
Had multiple blood tests which have all come back normal, an abdominal ultrasound in May which also was normal. I did stool samples in July, my calprotectin was normal and my FIT was 7. My GP had me repeat the FIT test in August and it came back as 18 and I was urgently referred for a colonoscopy for suspected Lower GI cancer.
I had my colonoscopy this morning and everything was normal. On the discharge letter it says they went up to my Caecum but the Terminal Ileum was not visualised. It also mentions "the bleeding appears to be anorectal but no intervention currently indicated" and that no further investigations are proposed.
I'm just lost at what to do now or what could be wrong with me, I'm looking for advice from anyone who may have had a similar symptoms to me but had a clear colonoscopy, and as to what I should do next in terms of asking for investigation/treatment?
Thank you all.
Hi confusedwhatnext,
it sounds like you’ve been through the mill alright!
From my own experience, I also had blood in my stools.
On my 1st colonoscopy they found 2 polyps (one they could remove on the day & the 2nd needed further investigation)
it was only when I returned to try & get the 2nd one removed they found a 3rd one which turned out to be the one causing the bleeding (& after surgery we found out it was also cancerous)
They were so surprised they missed it the first time, but said also that the colon can change shape & it may have been hiding in a corner on my first visit so that really worried me.
I hope you get some answers soon x
Suzy
