Hi,
can anyone help. I have been diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer as per my last thread. But I’m really struggling with the pain on my right side it’s awful, paracetamol just does not cut it. It stops me walking around and doing things I’m literally doubled up some days.
co-codomol I’ve been told can be addictive and make you drowsy with two children I want to carry on as much as I can so don’t want something that’s going to stop me from doing that.
I don’t know yet what stage my cancer is as I’m still waiting to hear from my consultant and the MDT which should be this week to give me a plan of action but when I left hospital on Friday I told them I was suffering from pain and they said to take paracetamol but pain can be so severe it really does not help.
anyone with bowel and liver cancer have the same symptoms?
thank you xxx
Hi, sorry to hear your in pain. my husband was diagnosed at Easter. He was in alot of pain and was told to take paracetamol, morphine, Codeine. He has been admitted to hospital twice with bowel obstruction. On the second admission his pain was finally sorted and put on a pureed food diet and a morphine patch. These have been a god send. After losing a third of his body weight he is now eating and not in any pain at all. He is now having chemo again but anyone looking on you wouldn't know. He's fishing, doing gardening.
I hope this helps. I know everyone is different.

Hi , I also had pain in my right side from the liver mets although mine was only when I was lying down. I was told to take paracetamol but it sounds like you will have a consultation soon so you can mention it to your team and they will be able to prescribe something stronger.
My pain disappeared after about 2 cycles of treatment when the mets started shrinking. Xx
Hi Tony73
My husbands blockage in the end was fully blocked in both hospital admissions. The consultant both times decided not to operate as cancer is too advanced. The first visit luckily it righted itself.
The second visit the doctors were on it to solve it. Which thank god they have. Being on a puree diet for him is the best as he is no longer in pain.
Hope Tony73 they help with yours.
Barbel. X
Dear Amanda,
Pain relief is so important. Pain can stop you doing your daily tasks , stop you sleeping and leave you depressed. You need to speak to your MDT team and work out a stratergy for your pain relief.
Yes the pain killers can be addictive but chronic pain is so debilating. I have had constant pain for 4 months and take paracetamol 4 times a day and tramadol as necessary. I'm also going through chemo with a myriad of side effects so the pain killers help with them as well
When you have cancer there is so much to deal with at least be pain free.
Take care, Carog
Hi,
thank you for your reply my GP has now prescribed me tramadol but making me feel really sick so puts me of food his prescribed me anti sickness tablets too which I pick up today so I hope they work as I need food to keep my strength going.
the pain is terrible I just want to try and carry on as normal as possible for my children but very hard when you have these side effects
x
Totally agree , hard to be present for your children when pain is constantly there ! Hope you get your prescription quickly .
They will get on top of it !
When do you see your oncologist again ?
Might be worthwhile emailing your oncology department and flag this up there too . Might push it along for you !

Dear Amanda, I take my tramadol with food and Cyclizine for the nausea of the chemo I'm taking.
I was told it is better to stay pain free ie take it regularly than try and get rid of the pain once it's back. So keep taking everything regularly until you are sure you are pain free.
Take care carog
