Am 84 years of age and have had 5 weeks of chemo and radio therapy that finished on 16 july .Since then have not been to bad except pain in bottom and slightly less during the day.Have been given morphine and meptid for pain and paracetamol. Also other tablets for diarrhoea and constipation. Its very difficult to get a balance with all these tablets As pain ones cause constipation.Have decided to.just use paracetamol and occasional pain killer if it is bad.Ihave a scan in 3 weeks .What do you advise or can I chat with similar patients and how do you do that thank you david
Hi Robinson. Mt wife is probably at the same stage as yourself and, like you, she has had problems with constipation, diarrhoea and pains in her bottom. The hardest part is finding the right balance as, as soon as we deal with her constipation, she gets diarrhoea and vice a versa. I bought her a soft cushion for her bottom which helped a bit but she too had to take pain killers as sometimes the pain was excruciating. So, you are not alone fighting this horrible disease and you will always find support, advice and care on this forum. Take care and good luck. x
Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me. Good to hear that you’ve finished chemoradiotherapy. The after effects can continue for a few weeks after stopping but will hopefully start to ease soon. As you say the painkillers can often cause constipation so if you can manage with just paracetamol it might give your bowels chance to settle down a bit?
Have you been allocated a Colorectal Support Nurse at your hospital? They should be able to help if you’re struggling and the nurses on here are available to chat from 8am-8pm every day on 0808 808 00 00.
There’s lots of posts and advice on here. If you see a post that you want to comment on then just click on the reply button. If you put a @ then type the persons name (no space after the @) then it will ‘tag’ that person and they will know that you’ve commented. If you want to add somebody as a friend so you can chat/message privately off the board then just click on their name which will take you to their profile page then click on the connect button which will send them a friend request.
Hope this helps but please ask if there’s anything you’re not sure about. We’re all at different stages of treatment /recovery on here and will be happy to support you and share experiences
Take care
Karen x
