Hi I'm looking for anyone's experience of immunotherapy along with cbd oil? Were so desperate for answers.
Also is immunotherapy to cure cancer or to prolong life?
Hi @Hayleyc89
I think I accidentally deleted my post.
We have been advised not to take cbd alongside treatment with immunotherapy, I think I've read a few articles regarding that, but we are not professionals so maybe its something best to ask the Dr.
I view immunotherapy the same as chemotherapy and that if successful it can open doors and change the path. If you have the right cells, msi high, immunotherapy can work miracles and it continues to work by training the immune system to fight the bad cells. I'm holding out onto the positives, it's the only thing we can do right now.
How is your husband feeling? Do you have an appointment with your oncologist soon?
Wishing you all the best, take care
Xx
Thank you for replying to me. My husband is a mess he keeps breaking down it's really hard to see he is thinking the worse where as I am trying to keep positive. How would we know if he has the right cells? I guess once we speak with the oncologist we will know more but only appointment we have received so far is for a colonoscopy on 12th August xx
Hi
I have been advised not to take anything with immunotherapy without consulting my oncologist first, even over the counter hayfever tablets as they keep a very close eye on your liver enzymes.
My oncologist was hoping to achieve " A long and durable response to immunotherapy" but he also said that sometimes it gets rid of the cancer completely. Oncologists will rarely use the word cured I believe.
Although at the moment I have no visible cancer I am aware that the immunotherapy can stop working at any time. In my case further tests are being done on the tumour they removed as new treatments are becoming available all of the time. My oncologist says he doesn't believe I will need them, but it will be good to have something in reserve. I am sure all of this will be put in place for your husband too, the waiting for answers is horrendous.
You asked how would you know your husbands cell type, your husbands consultant will have all this information. I think these tests are done quite early on in the treatment. I knew mine a long time before I started immunotheraphy as I was tested for Lynch.
Are you able to make a call to the consultants secretary and ask for a telephone consultation. Its a long time to worry and 2nd guess everything for you both.
Please take care love to you both
xx
Hi Hayleyc89
I'm sorry to hear that your husband is not coping and equally understand how you feel, its so hard to be positive and strong at the same time.
If your husband is msi high he is compatible with immunotherapy. But there is also a trial for mss (micro satellite stable cells) for immunotherapy right now. My husband was tested for mutations given his stage 4 diagnosis and his age which is how we found out about his Kras mutation and msi high cells. I wonder if yourhusband has a key worker nurse you can ask? But regardless,it's a positive sign that you were suggested immunotherapy as your next option.
I'm sure your husbands team are looking out for him. There are miracles and success stories, hold on to them and believe.
There are Facebook groups you may wish to join on immunotherapy, one is with uk bowel cancer research and another is international with a wider scope of patients with different cancer diagnosis on immunotherapy. You may find more information within those groups.
Take care xx
Thank you for replying and I believe we have a call on the 5th August we received a text message this evening to say so. Its all so very scary isn't it. You take care too xx
Hi. I don't have Facebook but I do read all other cancer sites like bowel cancer uk etc. Our nurse specialist has retired now so we are awaiting the details of the new nurse. Xx
