Bowl Cancer

So confused! Admitted to hospital this morning with suspected heart attack, discharged with possible bowl cancer diagnosis. Let me clarify. CT scan that I had for my heart showed an obstruction in the bowl. My mind raced & switched off- been here before. All I can remember is the consultant saying I’d usually keep you in over night for further tests but I wanted to go home so I’m back tomorrow morning instead.

I’m struggling as I had invasive breast cancer left side, 3 years ago & last year I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS right side. All I keep thinking is….how can I go from having breast cancer to bowl cancer within a year. Am I naive or just plain stupid! Struggling to take it on board & the way he was talking to me as if it’s 100% I have & I do feel stupid because I didn’t probe as my mind went blank..

    Good morning Court!

Thank you so much for such a quick response, very kind of you!
My heart is fine, only raised amylase, which didn’t seem to be of concern. As I was trying to recall our conversation last night, I now remember him saying there is a thickening. One thing he did say is, lucky for me that I came in yesterday as it could’ve gone undetected.

I kept thinking back to my grandmother who passed away with bowl cancer, and my most recently, my brother. The type of stomach cancer he had is hereditary, and he started with bowl problems, my mind did race a little!

Thank you for the link, I shall have a look and be a little more prepared this morning!

    Kind regards

    Ruth

  • Gosh , so pleased to hear your heart is fine . Whilst a very difficult situation to face I think the Dr might be right ! An incidental finding that has the potential to save life !
My friend changed GP practice and got called a year early for a mammogram. They told her just to go ahead anyway and found an early stage cancer too! Now she has gotten over the shock the family are struck by the aspect of ending up in the system early and benefits that she will have long term . However they also acknowledge no one wants this to happen !

Hope today goes ok for you . I take it that you might have bypassed the whole scanning and waiting aspect ! Have they got enough information to take forward ?

Keep in touch and we are thinking of you !
