Hi All, hope we’re staying cool in the hot weather.
I’m really suffering with back pain. I finished my last batch of chemo on 29 April and my back pain has been progressively getting worse. This was meant to be my free time, no chemo, get out there and live some life! I do sometimes then for days after I’m crippled, in chronic pain and at times I can’t even make it out of bed. It was so bad the other day I called the paramedics I didn’t know what to do with myself.
I had my last lot of scans done on Monday and I’m due to see the oncologist Monday week.
Is back pain a side affect of chemo, will my oncologist notice it if it isn’t cancer related. I’m finding the pain more debilitating than the cancer or the 6 months of chemo I’ve been through.
Feeling positively miserable
Susan
So sorry you are having this awful pain SG007. It is good that you have been scanned and are due to see the onco soon. In the meantime could you ring your specialist nurse or GP to be some proper pain relief? Sending hugs
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Hi SG007
Sorry to hear your in such pain , Your oncologist should have the radiologist report available. Certainly my mum’s scans makes note of non cancer issues but I am not sure if that is standard practice or not . But I completely agree with seaspirit44 you definitely need that level of pain assessed by a Dr and the appropriate care given .
The NHS has pain clinics to assist if they can’t get on top of it .

Thanks guys x
I’m taking paracetamol, Dihydrocodein, and diazepam but nothing seems to be touching it this time. I’m trying to stretch out in bed and do some gentle exercises to ease it out but it’s so painful. Even just laying flat on my back I can feel it spasming.
My poor mum is getting really distressed cause she’s not strong enough to help me up to get to the bathroom. I look like a tortoise trying to right itself. It be comical if it wasn’t so bloody painful! :)
You’re both right I need to have a chat again with my doctor to see what else we can do, as the bouts are happening more frequently.
It’s so frustrating, I don’t what to be laid up in bed, when I should be making the most of my time.
Thanks for listening
Susan x
You also might want to have a chat with an occupational therapist as there is good equipment to help come to a seated position from lying . Whilst you are on the phone to your Gp you might like to ask for an assessment as it’s quite easy to solve that one !
