Hi all,

my daughter had her 6month ct last week and met with her doctor yesterday for the results . He said there was a small adenoma on her liver and it would need further investigation and she was to have an mri  as soon as possible . She got call yesterday to go for the mri today.  I’m really surprised because usually you’re waiting ages for mris !
I’m not sure what this means ? What is an adenoma ? Does it mean her cancer has come back in the liver ? Needless to say I’m worried sick . She’s been cancer free since her surgery 2 years ago .

thanks in advance for any advice

  • Hi

My understanding is they are benign , non cancerous . I think they are influenced by hormones and they can grow so they probably are just taking care !

I could not find a Macmillan link for you but the British liver trust has some information and why they would still need some clinical attention .

Whilst some people find it hard to get an MRI scan most cysts that are being investigated following a cancer diagnosis are around two weeks . It happens here a lot !

She has a good team taking care of her !

    Take care ,

Thankyou fir the reply Court . Hopefully it is benign but given my daughters history I can’t help but fear the worst . It’s a nightmare waiting for scans and results as I’m sure everyone here knows .. she’s getting the mri at lunch time today so hopefully we have to wait too long for results

  • Hi . It is quite common to find benign cysts in the liver and there is a type commonly found in young women that’s caused by the contraceptive pill. I had to have an mri after my ct scan after it found something but the nurse said lots of people go through life with liver cysts and are none the wiser unless they have a scan. Maybe it was just too small to be picked up before?

it’s good that the mri is today (not necessarily a sign that they’re worried but they probably have a target time to meet!) because even if it does turn out to be something nasty then it’s been caught quickly and can be treated.

Glad to hear she’s being doing so well - please let us know how she gets on

    Take care

    Hi Karen,

the scan was done yesterday . They did it with contrast and it too around 45 minutes . We’re hoping to have results in the next few days, I’m going crazy with worry .

My daughter isn’t on any form of contraception so what ever it is it’s not caused by that . I’ll let ye know when we have results , until then I’m trying to stop myself googling !

thanks for taking to time to reply x

Great news ! Hospital rang to say that it’s nothing to worry about , they’ll keep an eye on it and review it in a few months … such a relief !
