Hello I've got surgery booked for Wednesday morning starting to get very worried now carnt seem to stay calm burst out crying when I speak to my daughter as I'm isolating it's so lonely I suffer with anxiety as it is and agoraphobia the hospital won't even let her take me to the word thanks helen x
Hi Bop. You’re nearly there now Helen and by Wednesday night the operation will be done and dusted. I know it’s worrying but please try and remember that this is just a normal days work for the surgeon. Unfortunately the COVID guidelines won’t allow anyone not being treated into the hospital but I found everyone that I encountered to be really helpful and thoughtful.
Quite often the hospitals have a reception desk or meeters and greeters inside the entrance so perhaps you could explain how you’re feeling to them and they could accompany you to the ward or ask someone to come down and help you?
You know that we’re all going to be sending you virtual hugs and positive thoughts but you could also give the nurses a ring on 0808 808 00 00 for a bit of reassurance?
Take care and I hope it all goes well
Karen x
Hi Bop, Helen, really sorry to hear that you are on your own and getting a little worked up about Wednesday's op. It isn't surprising as this is a major event for you although, as Karen says, routine for your surgery team. I remember a long walk to the surgical admissions room but once there everyone was so cheerful and helpful that you calm down. A check by the nurses, a chat to the anaesthetist and the surgeon and off to a side room near the theatre, a quick jab or two and wake up in recovery all done.
Good idea from Karen about asking someone from reception to accompany you I think they would do that at my local hospital, the PRUH.
Any good TV programmes or music you like to take your mind off it? (Avoid hospital ones!) Anyone else you can talk to? Something you could plan to do when you get out so you think past the operation to when you are better?
Whatever you find that helps I just wish you all the best for Wednesday and look forward to you posting afterwards how it went.
Cheers, John
Thank you im trying to stay positive but its not easy going to down load Netflix toe phone hope that helps x
