Yesterday I finally met my oncologist, who was easy to understand and kind in her manner.
I will be starting Flofox ASAP, which maybe the week after next.
The aim is to shrink the widespread liver mets. In her words we will go "gung ho" at this. It will involve a picc line and visiting the hospital every other week for the next 6 months. I am now taking a break from work and will be paid statory sick pay, which will be a huge cut for us with an impact on our cash flow. We are both lower income wage earners so only just make ends meet at the best of times.
I am very thankful with our NHS though. Nicola.
Hi Bluebell51
So glad your treatment plan has come together ! You oncologist sounds as though she has your back for sure!
I just want to remind you our helpline has a benefits advisor and also can do grant applications . It might be worthwhile to see if they can maximise your income . They are very up to date ! The fundraising is to cushion these blows so people can reduce some of the money worries going through treatment. I hope you can give them a call . 0808 808 0000.
I am pleased your oncologist sounded warm and supportive. Now for some significant shrinkage to occur !
Hope you can do a few nice things before treatment starts !
take care ,
Court

Hello! My husband is currently going through treatment for bowel cancer he had an operation to remove the tumour/part of bowel and we also are meeting oncologist Monday for ongoing chemotherapy. We too are both low earners and are feeling the pinch with only one wage now coming in ( and it’s the lesser one ) tho as you say Thnking our stars for the NHS as they have moved quickly on this was diaosed on 9th April we spoke to Macmillan benefits advisor and are entitled to 0 unfortunately x x it’s a struggle but we’ll get there x x
Hi Rosyapples, I am so pleased that your husband has had his operation. It must be very financially tough for you. When dealing with this it is wearing to have to worry about making ends meet.
I realise that there will be extra fuel costs for hospital visits , parking fees as well. It all adds up.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
