Hi everyone,
Hope you've been enjoying this lovely weather we've been having lately. East London is a bit cloudy today though, but the sun is doing it's best to get out.
My 3rd round of Folfox was delayed on Wednesday as I failed my blood test not once, but three times. Feel like a rouge athlete who's been doing illegal drugs saying that, haha. My platelets were too low, they did a manual recount the first time which took some time and it looked like they might be clumped together meaning it was more than 80. So they tried again. And it went down to 70. But we didn't give up so we tried again. And no, it was time to go home after 5,5 hours and a lovely lunch. I got the vegetable soup and a Greek salad with chicken breast, even though I can't eat most of the things in the salad thanks to my temporary ileostomy I just couldn't have another tuna or egg sandwich. So I was enjoying my feta cheese and chicken whilst digging in the tomatoes and cucumber to get the bits I could eat. It looked like a child who doesn't like anything had eaten in the end but I was happy.
Hopefully my platelets will be back to normal and more well-behaved next week. My nose has stopped having blood in it when I blow it so I'm ever so hopeful. Also my extra sensitivity seem to have eased a bit, so this lady is back to being the tough Viking she likes to pretend she is despite being browned haired, short and green eyed. nothing like my mother who was the image of what Swedes do look like with her long legs, blonde hair and extremely blue eyes.
One of the side effects of my Folfox has been my hair thinning quite a lot, for someone with thick hair who's never had to worry about burning my scalp this was new. But gave me the PERFECT excuse to do some more online shopping. Some new hats, obviously had to be accompanied with a new dress or three and other things I maybe not need but I gave myself a good argument in why I do actually need them anyway. It arrived last night so I'm looking forward to try everything on and see how much I want to keep and how much money I can expect H&M to pay me back for whatever I might send back to them.
My boyfriend and everyone around me are raving about the Euros starting today, who else is looking forward to this?
I think I'm footballed out from the Premier League, Europa League and Champions League just finishing. My Mancunian partner is a lifelong City fan so it's been a lot of ups and downs (he's still not over losing the CL final). As a Man United fan I must say I'm a bit more relaxed, we've not expected anything great for such a long time now anyway
I can't see Sweden doing too well, but I have my hopes up for England doing a bit better. Nice to have two teams to support, even though it was painful to watch the Sweden-England game in the World Cup a few years ago.
Anyway, I'm off to try on my hats, dresses and shoes - thanks for letting me ramble on for a bit
xx Em
Missem. What a lovely post Em - it did make me smile and brought back some memories. I had some pre op chemo and 2 elderly ladies were arguing over the last tuna sandwich as the coronation chicken one had lettuce in and she couldn’t have lettuce! I didn’t know why at the time and it was pretty messy by the time she’d picked it all out. I don’t like egg and unfortunately I discovered that Lily the Ileostomy did not like tuna - went straight through me and I had to empty the bag after each half! I lived off jacket potato’s without the skin (sob) with cottage cheese and nearly cried the day they turned up with baked beans as they’d run out of cheese! The hospital homemade soup was amazing but the rest of the food - ugh!
The shopping spree sounds great although you could have just bought some clear spray-on suncream like I did yesterday? That’s after going to the hairdressers where she said ‘ is your parting in the middle…..oh yes it’s there where that red stripe is!’ It’s a bit overcast here in Lincolnshire today too and pretty windy so the washings out and I’ve got one eye on the dark clouds.
im sure we’ll be watching the euros too. Hubby is threatening to put a telly up on the wall inside our new summer house ….. I think/hope he’s joking……I want bunting and nice nik naks not a big television! He’s a lifelong Leeds fan so pretty happy with last season. I’ve got a lovely mental image of you dressed up to the nines in your new outfit with hat looking like you should be going to ascot rather than watching footie in your lounge but go for it!
Well the plasterer will be coming shortly to start on what remains of our bathroom so I’ll brace myself for more mess and distract myself by taking your lead and having a quick peek at Next online (other stores are available)
Hope the new stuff fits
Take care

Hi Em an Karen,
Great posts! I have to say your hospital food certainly sounds a lot better than what I was offered! Greek salad! whatever next!
I am really looking forward to the Euro's, I too have two teams to follow, England obvs and Scotland as my Dad was from Dundee! He lived in England for more than 60 years but we always cheered Scotland on too. My cousins north of the border unfortunately didn't return the favour!
My brother in law is setting up the TV in the garden for England's game on Sunday, we will have a big family buffet and I am certain there will be prosecco featured! I am so looking forward to seeing everyone, it's been so long since we were together. My daughter is coming for the weekend to say as her boyfriend has a stag do in Manchester so happy she will be here. He is a huge Chelsea fan and she is Man Utd so there has been some banter in their home these last few months!
I have also enjoyed shopping online. I have just taken delivery of a parcel from Next. I will have a fashion parade later! So glad my daughter will be here because as great as my husband is, he just says, yes lovely darling! I am sure he doesn't always look up!
I have been very illustrious this morning, made a hanging basket and also listed some stuff on ebay that I have been meaning to do for ages! I know as soon as they sell I will put the weight back on and wish I had kept them!
Must dash, picking my lovely girl up from the station - excited to see her!
Take care all, keep safe and positive and have a lovely weekend!
Lots of love xxx
Hi Kareno62
Haha oh! It is a struggle finding things that agrees not only with the stoma, I have not named mine yet but I do have some names in mind but also the chemo. I used to love tuna or egg sandwiches but after each time I've had either at my chemo the thought of them now make me a bit queasy. I'd love a good jacket potato with cheese, they had it on the menu when I was in after my surgery but not at the chemo ward. I might ask and see if they have a secret menu with it on..
Hihi, I must admit that I borrowed my puppies sun cream the other day when we had lunch, mostly in the shade but the sun popped on our heads a few times. We'd forgotten our own sun screen but not the puppies. So our heads were sprayed and so was the puppies nose and fur. (We did do our legs and arms before we left).
I know what you mean, there was actually a conversation between my bf and two friends last night about who's got the biggest TV (our is "only 43 so we weren't going to win that one) to watch the football on. They realised that our local gastro pub has put in a massive TV now so they decided that that is the place to watch it together. Leeds did really well last season, I did see a few of their games and it was good football!
Good luck with the plasterer, and do be careful, my grandma tripped over some plastic the handymen had left out when she had her kitchen done a few months ago and broke her arm. They do great jobs but also create great messes..
Hope you find something nice at Next, I am delighted to say I am keeping most of my stuff from H&M and also did a new order for some of the tops that look lovely but are great around the portacath for when I have the needle in. I did have a little look at New Look and getting some shoes delivered tomorrow.. That's me for shopping for a while I think.
Have a lovely weekend, Em x
Hi
I must say the Greek salad was a nice change from sandwiches :)
Oh, I do love it when Scotland do well. They were my second team for a long time since my aunt has been living there for over 20 years now, first country I visited in the UK! My boyfriend has a lot of friends from there too, some of the loveliest people I know. Feel like I've demoted the team to my 3rd one since living in England for 7 years now but I do still enjoy it when they put up a fight against England in the rugby.
That sounds so lovely, and like such a great time! Hope you have the best time with the family and your daughter, times that needs to be enjoyed now more than ever after the past year and a bit with Covid and everything else. Please do enjoy a glass of prosecco for me as well, I do miss a good night with family and friends with a bbq and some nice bubbles. My grandma stocked up on it before Covid for her 70th, think she had around 30 bottles, but then the pandemic happened and we've pushed the celebration up a bit. She's kept me updated, there are still around 15 bottles left
Haha that is typical isn't it? My boyfriend has started to take an interest in what I buy now and actually do say what he thinks, I've trained him well since we've been locked up together
Hope you have the best time with your daughter!
Love, Em xx
Haha! I didn't realise that until the other day either! We were in shock on Saturday watching the Denmark - Finland game. We got in from a puppy walk and turned the TV on just as Eriksen collapsed. Both me and the boyfriend were crying watching everything happening after, such great team mates protecting him from the cameras and comforting his wife. So glad he is OK I hospital now.
I'm looking forward to the Sweden - Spain game today even though I can't see Sweden doing too well I'm hoping to be surprised haha!
xx Em
