CT Scan

Hi All,

Was anyone told what stage they was at, regarding Sigmoid Colon cancer after the CT Scan and before surgery?

Did anyone have the Staging altered up or down post operation.

I'm trying to get an idea of how accurate my wife's CT Scan may be, regarding her Staging.

I realise that a Post Op results study will have the final say on Staging.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi  I was told my probable staging after all my initial scans and at my meeting with the surgeon before starting treatment although this was for rectal cancer. Although the chemoradiotherapy shrank the tumour by 75% it did not affect my staging although the suspected EMVI was determined as no longer there. The lymph nodes that were originally predicted to be 1-3 was accurate in that 2/17 were found.

  • Hi. When my husband was 1st diagnosed through CT scan he was diagnosed  T4N1M0 he had 3 months neoadjuvent chemotherapy and thankfully this shrunk the tumor enough for surgery, after surgery he's diagnosis changed to T4N2M0 he is starting chemotherapy again next week and has now been told that they are confident of a cure so this is amazing news.

  • Great news Hayleyc89. We have had an initial meeting with a Surgeon and he mentioned that it had not spread, (Stage4). This was all from a CT Scan.

Whilst looking at some notes, on a computer screen, with the Cancer Nurse it stated that she was Stage 2.

All this information from a CT scan?

The Surgeon did say the final diagnosis would be given after her operation.

Just wondering if anyone has had information regarding Staging from a Scan drastically changed once an operation to remove Cancer has happened.

How come the Surgeon can be so upbeat regarding it not being Stage 4, yet not confirming anything else about what stage it probably is from the Scan only.

  • The scans tell your doc where your cancer is what size it is if it's grown. If it's shrunk or if it's stable. I got told today I'm still stable which is great news. Hope all goes well for your wife, try to stay positive and strong.Oh yes I'm stage 3.

  • Well done  . Great news to hear ! I take it you are staying on the treatment ?

    Just delighted for you .
