Hi, currently waiting for a liver mri after being told my rectal cancer had spread. Mri this Friday and oncology app the Tues after, feels like an age of waiting. During this time I am experiencing quite severe pain around my bum, is this a normal thing for people with rectal cancer and is there a plan for helping? My docs had me on tramadol, had no effect, now on Targinet and oral morphine. Just feel I would be coping mentally a lot better if I didn't have this physical soreness, can anyone relate or advise? Xx
Hi
I can’t shed any light on the pain aspect but hope your new meds are getting to work .
A long week for sure but all I can say whilst this part seems to drag out with the additional testing they seem to speed up once all the information is gathered and suddenly you have a date to start treatment . After all the waiting around that part took us by surprise.
Just wanted to wish you all the best . If the pain does not subside the NHS does have pain clinics you could ask to be referred to but hopefully your team should be able to get on top of it soon .
Take care ,

Hiya Daisydoo, thanks so much for that info, to be honest I had never even heard of a fistula before. Since I posted I am now on 20ng of targinact and also the oral morphine as and when needed. Certainly not pain-free, but helping a bit. Thanks for your reply xx
