Hi
New to all this. I was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer on 23rd December out of the blue and still cant get my head around it all, feels like I'm stuck in a nightmare I cant get out of. Treatment has started with chemotherapy, cycle 3 tomorrow. Thought it might help to talk to people going through the same thing, some days I struggle to cope with it all.
I dint have a diagnoses yet but no more Saturday hsve had my bowel partial removal and reversed agsin with stoma for few months that was when I was 16 and over twenty years ago it can all be a worry and very stressful times I struggle daily with anxiety have spoke to my own doctor as well I think this site is great even ring early at nine and try speaking to the nurses on phone they are brilliant
Hi
Big welcome to the forum from me too!
If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story with tackling a stage 4 diagnosis. Like you she was completely unaware and just completed a bowel screen that had just been rolled out in our post code ! What a shock to discover she not only had cancer but had set up residency in her liver . It felt as though we had turned down a horrible corner and could not get back out of it .
Very , very early days for you and if I am honest I think it took us all a good year to get a handle on living a good life in spite of it . But that was back in 2009 and with the help of the NHS and seeking out the right windows of opportunity for my mum she is still here doing her thing although with a different set of needs now .
Bowel cancer care has come a long way since 2009 although first line chemo is largely the same . How are you managing with the actual chemo ? Looking back it was a good plan to go to chemo as it pulled in any spread and allowed some shrinkage . In a stage 4 setting location of tumours really comes into play but if they can find another way to tackle it they really do reassess and refer where possible so it’s not a situation without hope but it’s a very difficult process and I hope we can help lessen that for you .
Take care ,
Court
