So I have noticed that my husband since finding out he's scan date has been drinking more than usual I know it's because he is nervous about he's scan and is also feeling depressed with the whole situation but I'm just wondering if anyone knows the effects of drinking while on chemotherapy I can't find a great deal online so just wanting to know people's personal experiences. I'm worried about everything :(
Hi Hayleyc89 welcome to the forum and I can appreciate that your husband is feeling scared and possibly feeling like the whole thing is out of his control. To a greater degree most of of it will be as it is down to others to treat us and get us through the other side however, how he feels and deals with it all will have an impact on how well he deals and copes with the treatment.
You have said it yourself the alcohol is his way of coping at the moment but its not a good one and hopefully will be short lived as Alcohol and Chemo will not be a good mix and most folks can feel so unwell with the chemo that Alcohol will be the furthest thing from their minds. I imagine his team will advise him at the start of chemo but he will need to be phsyically as well as he can be before the treatment to enable him to cope with it all.
Have you pointed out to him that you are concerned?
Hi Hayleyc89. When I was on chemo I asked the oncologist about the effect of alcohol on the chemo. She told me that drinking in moderation would not affect it but that I probably wouldn't want to as the taste changes. I didn't drink while on it just in case anyway.
I wish you husband well with his last treatment, at least that will be one relief and for his scan. You too for looking after him, my wife used to worry for me too.
John
Thank you for your reply. He has carried on drinking throughout treatment he said it doesn't taste any different to him which i find odd because a cup of tea tastes awful to him now I guess it's his way of coping but I can't help but worry. Hope you are well.
