Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had had neck pain after chemo?  It’s on my picc side and worse after sleep despite taking paracetamol and eases during morning but has been there for a week now. I have had bad side effects in other ways this time and this pain is at the bottom of the list but was just wondering whether it may be related to chemo as a nurse kind of.dismissed it when It was mentioned when I rang the treatment helpline about another issue. Thanks

  • Hi

I think I would phone our helpline staff and see if they have heard of that before 0808 808 0000 or your GP . The team that installed the picc line might be able to give you more information . I certainly would not leave it just because someone dismissed it .

Seems reasonable to want that checked out .

  • Thanks Court! Will do. I’ve now a face to face clinic appointment tomorrow not a telephone consultation as ongoing side affects may delay my next session or chemo may be reduced Disappointed so I’ll mention it then also.

  • How did you get on ? Hope it all went ok .

  • Hi Court. The picc line nurse came to see me before and during my chemo session as I queried whether the line may be pressing  on a nerve. I had an x-ray and although there was slight swelling on my arm, no blood clot was evidence and I was advised to see my GP. I started taking co-codomol instead if paracetamol a few days ago and this eases the pain better in the mornings. It seems that I  have pulled a muscle perhaps. My picc line was not flowing well initially and I was at the hospital for 6 hours in total!

  • Six hours is such a long day !!!

So pleased it was not a clot and they sound as though they have checked you out thoroughly .

Glad you got better pain meds too. Whilst it’s a relief to know there is no clot you don’t want to have any additional pain either .

    Take care ,
