Had my second chemo session on Thursday, which all went well. I’m on folfox and experiencing sensitivity to the cold as one of the side effects. The only problem is I’m also suffering with extreme hot flushes and I can’t use anything to cool me down as this sets off the numbness in my hands and constricted breathing. The hot flushes are getting me more down than the chemo. I feel like I’m in a living hell at the moment with it, I’m exhausted from the lack of sleep and I’m really irritable. If anyone has any suggestions to relieve hot flushes, other than HRT that has worked for them, I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks
Susan
Hi SG007
That sounds so rough Susan . I don’t think I have seen this come up before but I could be wrong . They are bad enough on their own without not being able to cool them down . I sleep under an open window but that’s as far as I really have to go and not managing chemo on top . Definitely hormone related? I would be inclined to phone the specialist nurse to see if they have encountered it . Or our helpline staff may have with different primaries . I am sure this must come up in the Breast cancer patients . 0808 808 0000 would be more than happy to speak to you . They have a broad spectrum of knowledge so have maybe encountered it . The cold sensitivity is hard work also on its own . Your oncologist may also want to know about So they can review all aspects and keep it manageable. They seem to prefer to make adjustments rather than stop where possible . They will have encountered every issue out there so don’t be frightened to reach out to them .
Hope you get a solution soon .

Hi Court
thank you for your message, apologies for the delay in responding.
ive spoken with the chemo nurses and I’ve got an appointment with my GP on Tuesday. I was always worried about taking HRT because of the risk of cancer, but now I’ve got it, seems silly not to take it if I can and if it will alleviate the symptoms.
Thanks again, Susan
No problem at all . I hope you get on top of it . It can be so disturbing. But I can see your logic . Its the only reason I have struggled on to !! But my friends use it and it seems to do the trick .
How is your treatment going ?
