On 7th August 2020 I attended a and e for suspected appendicitis. Had bloods taken and ct abdo and pelvis. My appendix was fine but they picked up a thickening in my ascending colon. I was also anemic. I was admitted and given 2 units of blood and seen by the surgeon who told me I had cancer. I had more ct scans and colonoscopy. Adenocarcinoma was confirmed and biopsies taken. They also discovered that I had a blood clot in my pelvis.
Several admissions to hospital for dvt treatment and pain management meant having 6 months anti coag injections, ivc filter fitted and liquid diet until surgery.
All this news given on my own because of covid. Prior to lock down I was due to have surgery to have my tubes and ovaries removed due to my brca 2 positive status. My surgery agreed to remove them at the same time as my right hemi colectomy.
I had surgery on 30th September and both gynaecologist and bowel surgeon said they were confident the surgery went well. My tumour was originally was a t3 but once removed was t4 and was visible from the outside. They removed 24 nodes all of which were clear as were vessels and peritoneal washings. Cancer graded as stage 2 at that stage and recommended chemo as mop up. I was referred to oncologist but awaiting results of tubes and ovaries.
I had virtual appointment with oncologist on 2nd of November feeling hopeful that chemo would cure to be told that I had secondary bowel cancer in my ovaries. My world fell apart. I went from stage 2 to stage 4. With slim chance of cure. He requested urgent ct chest abdo and pelvis to see if there is any further spread which I had on Thursday. Awaiting results and trying to stay positive. All that keeps going through my mind is my 6 and 3 year old girls are too young to lose their mum.
If anyone is in similar situation and can give me some positive advice, I would be grateful.
Hi
So sorry to read about your recent results . Such a shock for you to change stages . Holding out that all has been removed and you are NED ( no evidence of disease ) .
Bowel cancer compared to some other primaries actually has quite a lot of treatment options from which to tackle it as a chronic condition . One way or another my mum is 11 years and counting . Good scanning and quick intervention has resulted in anything needing attention being dealt with whilst it was small and operable . It has been a good strategy !
Hopefully you will get the scan results quickly and give you a better picture and plan for a way forward . If you click on my user name you can read her full story .
There are other people experiencing similar issues so hopefully they will pop on and read your post .
Give your precious children a big hug from us and we will certainly do our best to support you through this until you are on a better footing .
take care ,

Thank you so much for your reply.
So nice to hear a positive story. Sounds like you have been a big support to your mum.
Im hopeful that there isn't any evidence of disease. It the not knowing thats the worst. I will feel better once there is a plan in place.
I think the support on these groups are amazing and inspirational x
Hi Rainbow2020,
So sorry to hear. The worry is hard... sending you positive thoughts and a big virtual hug. The waiting for scan results is also so hard... try to stay positive. My husband was just diagnosed stage 4 (into liver) all at once. He took courage from when he went to get a haircut... his haircutter told him she was told she had months to live 14 years ago. She was a young mum and said she needed to stick around for her daughter, who is now 16. I know it’s not always possible but there are some lovely situations out there and you are doing the right thing to stay positive. And don’t let anyone give up on you. Anyway, I don’t know if that’s encouraging or not but I wanted to let you know there are people out here rooting for you. Take care.
