Hello i had a right hemi operation done on monday I came yesterday day 4 but I have had a diorriorra each time I have to go to the poo and I dont feel like eating much like I've just picked at things , drinking lots of water any one who has any ideas I have been resting lots little walk down stairs to sit for a while back up to bed to rest alot

  • That is amazing that your home and able to move around a little . My mum was 11 days in hospital . I don’t think she was even up at your stage .

I am no expert in bowel management so I will leave others to address that area but we focused on staying hydrated and she ate small amounts of things she could manage . Her appetite did return on its own slowly .

You take care and it’s great to hear from you

  • Hi Jane 2727

I had a sigmoid resection and found scrambled eggs and jacket potato but not with skin to be okay for me, just lately i have found porridge to be really helpful with constipation if thats a problem down the line, i would try and eat high protein food and rest, its good that you drink plenty.

When i first come home i asked what food should you avoid and the answer i had was to eat a balanced diet however, i avoided onions and strong tasting food such as this, i tried some leeks after about 4 weeks, big mistake !!

Try and keep a little active to prevent blood clots and build a little strength, wishing you all the best,

    TG

Hi. Well done on your recovery so far. My husband had the same op as you on 5th October and his bowel movements were pretty much the same. He was in hospital for a week and only started eating on the 6th day due to complications.  When he got home he enjoyed soft food eg.scrambled egg, soup, mash potato and angel delight. He still had diarrhoea for the first week of being home but it did settle down. We reintroduced fibre slowy which helped. 6 weeks on from surgery he is looking forward to returning to work...lorry driver, although he now has to deal with a 6 month course of chemo. I hope your recovery continues well, just remember everyone is different

Hello its 2 weeks today since operation had a message left on my answer phone to see my surgeon on thursday but didn't say what for do you thinks it's the results from my tumour

  • It’s very standard for a follow up a few weeks later and often the pathology will be available. But they will also just want to check your recovery is going well .
It very part of the post op care you would expect .

Hopefully they will give you more information on what they achieved during surgery .

Hello the doctor said he got all of the cancer out the bowel but he took 14 lymph nodes and 2 of them had it in so he said it was grade 3 but said I will need to have a mop up treatment chemotherapy tablets for 3 ths so they clear up any cells they cant see how did anyone get on with chemotherapy tablets I wont star till January they said

  • Great news they got it all out with good margins . That’s fantastic.

I will leave others to address the chemo tablets . My mum did them and it was doable , just had to have a strict routine to take them at the correct time . But others would be better placed to give you first hand advice.

Enjoy your break from it all just now .

    take care ,
