so after a lot of confusion with my treatment and my oncologist being on annual leave I'm being left not knowing anything, I know covid hasn't helped but I've been ill since March
now being told I need radiotherapy but not the reason why,? after the oncologist told me in July that he didn't think it was needed
I'm sorry I know I'm ranting but I'm now getting scared after being told that my treatment isn't working as well as they hoped
Hi
I can totally understand why you find that confusing. Is your oncologist still on annual leave ?
There are many hurdles in delivering care right now but it sounds very reasonable and achievable to be able to provide you with the reasoning behind the next treatment approach.
I think the last time we chatted you were hoping to finish your last chemotherapy and move onto a surgical plan . I take it you have a rectal tumour? It is very common to have radiotherapy for that area and often combined with chemo .
I think your anxiety over this issue is totally understandable and perfectly reasonable to email the secretary of the surgeon and clarify a few points before proceeding . You want the best outcome for you and your future . To understand the clinical decisions and have your questions answered Particularly if you are concerned about the efficiency of treatment . I think it’s easy for departments to forget underneath it all is the concern about long term survival. They often see a good clinical outcome but particularly just now that can be lost in the awkward communication that Covid is inflicting on the system .
A quick email might answer your questions and give you more insight . I think so much is done over the phone just now we are losing some of the communication channels that allowed a lot of our questions to be answered . We experienced something similar just now and after 11 years of navigating the system it was quite different and made us appreciate the opportunity to speak face to face .
take care ,
