Has anyone else experienced that this long after operation that I can go days without going to the toilet, and then either have the runs or very loose stools, for a couple of hours. I also still have a tenderness in the place of where I had the keyhole surgery, would be grateful, if anyone else could advise me about this.
Yes, I had vague pains at the site of my Op. (Keyhole,) for at least as long as 8 mths. Also, it probably took about a year before my bowel became more normal....mainly having the runs; which I still get to this day (after 18mths.) after drinking coffee or eating eggs. When they remove lengths of colon (mine was 9 ") stomach contents are apt to go through the system much quicker.
Best wishes
Hi hutchm
Yes, I had a similar problem with my bowels being all over the place for some months, but I found that looking at my diet to find what foods were giving me diarrhoea helped. My consultant gave me prescriptions for when I had diarrhoea and a gentle laxative for when I was constipated. I also had pain on my right side - just above my waist - which I still get on and off but this has been put down to adhesion.
It can take several months or more for your system to get back to near normal and I still have bad days, and I had my surgery in 2011.
Take care
