Hi

I had a phone call this morning telling me that they have had a cancellation next Monday & so I agreed to it.....though I'm very scared & anxious about the procedure, especially as it's so sudden!

Has anyone here had a Lung Ablation? Is so, I really would appreciate your experience.

Many thanks.

    Hi Marianne

I’m glad to hear that you have a date for surgery, and I can fully understand how scared and anxious you are, but I’m sure things will be easier once you’ve had the surgery.  I cannot offer any advice re lung ablation, but I’m sure someone else will be in touch very soon.

Take care, and I hope your surgery goes well.

    Sending you a hug

  • Thank you so much VickiLynne

  • Hi

So pleased to hear it’s happening sooner rather than later . I have read lots on the matter but no direct experience. From what I have read it seems to be significantly less invasive than surgery so hopefully that will play out in your recovery . Even with Vats my mum’s recovery was night and day compared to bowel or liver surgery . In comparison it was much more straightforward for her .

So pleased to hear this and supporting you all the way on your journey to NED ( no evidence of disease ).

Totally understand why you feel anxious . My mum’s procedures always were suddenly sprung on her after weeks of slow procedures and planning .

All the very best and take special care ,

  • Hi Court,,,thanks so much for your reply. Yes, it's not surgery as such....& I shall stay in overnight. Any procedure for me has me on the ceiling! xx

  • Well personally I think that is entirely reasonable! I am of the same disposition. Grinning

That’s good they keep in you for the night . Nice to have them keep a good eye on you . I think because only a few sites in Britain use it , not so many people here seem to talk about it . Meanwhile over in the USA they seem to talk about it much more . It was however encouraging to hear how good the results are .
So will look out for you reporting your safely through and we are always here to support .
    take care ,

  • Thanks so much Court....am home now, tired, & feelng a bit bruised...but thankful to have had it done earlier than I had expected....as who knows what the situation is going to be looking like in hospitals in the coming months.

    best wishes

  • Welcome to no evidence of disease ( NED) . So pleased to hear you are safely through it all and tucked up at home to recover .

Seems we are heading towards another period of uncertainty. Our local hospital, despite having an increase in the area is still holding the numbers down and the concentration is on cancer care .

    Have a good rest ,

  • I hope you are right re. NED....that would indeed be wonderful - after a very long & at times worrying 18 mths. No one actually told me after the procedure...whether it was successful...so obviously I hope to hear soon. I have two small entry sites, so they obviously went after the two small mets. in the one lung. One was 5mm & the other had virtually shrunk to nothing...after 6mths of Capecitabine Tabs. My Oncologist finally took me off the tabs.over a week ago....& I am thankful she did, as I would'nt have been a candidate for RFA (As you have to be off Chemo. for 12 days - which I was to the day!! She had upped the dosage for the last cycle (7th.) but my hands were very bad...skin peeling off badly & very hard to clench & open hands.......plus eyes constantly watering (& nose,) sore swollen lips & awful itching 'down below' No idea if they were all chemo. related...but not pleasant having all at once! So....am very very glad to be finally off them. (Hopefully never again.)

Right now, I'm still extremely tired after Monday's 'ordeal' GA is wearing, plus all the concoction of Tabs. they give you beforehand. I feel very bruised.....(However, I actually managed to get my car to a garage for repairs at 8am this morning. Sheer necessity!)

As for the Royal Bournemouth Hospital....Excellent place....very clean, very effective teamwork...runs so smoothly, plus the two wards I was on...amazing, caring & empathetic nurses & staff.

    Thanks again Court x

  • That’s amazing you managed to get your car to the garage . Well done you .

You clearly have a very proactive oncologist as well getting them nipped in the Bud whilst they are tiny ! Mum’s was 8 mm ( I think) .

Sounds a very efficient team there and so pleased it was a positive experience. I had heard you can feel a bit as though you have the flu after it but not sure how accurate that would be !

It has been a tough period and during a pandemic!!! You are built for endurance for sure but lovely to see you coming through all this and putting it behind you .

    take care ,
