Well we’re just a few weeks off it being 2 years since Steve’s bowel cancer diagnosis, 14 months since his second surgery, 8 months since he finished chemo and this afternoon we’ve just got his final first year test results back....showing ‘NO’ signs of cancer left in the bowel or any spread outside of the bowel!! Hugging

The last two years have been a pure fight, a struggle, he’s been left with a permanent colostomy. But we’ve made it through. Together Heart when I say WE it’s because it’s been a journey for us both.

Steve was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer at 55years old in 2018.  The future looked bleak. Together with positivity and laughter, tears and a fight, he has now made it through to his first year in remission Heart

    Hi,

Fabulous news, I have just read your profile and Steve has been through a lot but great to hear that he has had good results.

I am having my radiotherapy at the same hospital, it's an amazing unit and all of the staff are fabulous. Because of covid I had my first op and chemo at 2 different local hospitals but will have my next op at UHCW as that's where the surgeon and my oncologist are based.

So good to hear positive news, love to you both.

    Take care xx

  • Wishing you so much luck and best wishes with your treatment. UHCW are amazing. Michelle and Martin were our Macmillan nurses and they were just fantastic. Dr worlding was Steve’s consultant and was great too. Not to mention his surgeon Mr Evans. Who has literally been so amazing for us the last two years. Xx

My nurse is called Carole but I have never actually met her, but she phones me every week.  My sister had treatment there last year and Martin was her nurse, she says how great he was. My consultant is Dr Correa and he really is amazing! So positive and cheerful.

The hospital is huge though isn't it? I have to sit in the car until everyone has left the unit at the moment as I have covid, and the ambulances are constantly coming in and going out. Great place though! I said to my hubby today .. we are very lucky to have all of this so close. I feel that the treatment I have had at such a difficult time for all of the staff has been wonderful.

Thank you for you kind wishes , My radiotherapy is almost finished and then will be waiting for a scan.

I am so happy for you both that you have such good news.

    Take care xxx

  • great news and reassuring given I am potentially just starting the same journey (diagnosis not 100% confirmed yet but doctors indicate it all points to bowel cancer) - you are a great reminder that there is hope

  • The one thing I can recommend to you Or anyone going through this is to keep positive always. Even when it seems like you can’t. Steve and I kept positive and laughing and smiling as much as we could through the whole journey. Yes we cried too, a lot!  But we always tried to look on the positive and bright side of news to stop it sucking us in and drowning us. Steve’s consultants and nurses still comment on how our positivity amazed them through it all. As have our family and friends. I hope your results are ok but if you ever have any questions, worries etc. please just ask. X

    Hi Nicky_noonah

So pleased to hear your news, and I hope Steve continues to do well.  I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2011 and it was hard at first but my two daughters were so positive which really helped me get through things.  We can hardly ever put it completely behind us, as many of us  who have had bowel cancer still have the odd times when we have eaten somethings that’s upset us, and I had to adjust my diet but  (pre covid) I had a full and active life

    Take care both,

    VickiLynne
