Hello everybody
Sorry havnt been on here for a while have found the new site a bit difficult to navigate. On Thursday I have my stoma reversal, I know the surgeons and medical staff see this as routine but as I am sure as everyone who has one knows it is quite a big thing to get your head around. I am getting quite scared at the moment of the after effects after having read about a lot of problems on the forum, any advise would be much appreciated
Thankyou
Lots of love Peacock62 xxx
Hi Peacock62 I was going to msg you then saw this, I don’t have any advice to give you other than Bazzer on bowel cancer uk has just had his done, he posted several times of his experiences, it’s only been in last 3 weeks.....you might want to pop over and have a read up if no one comes along on here, but I’m sure they will.......and remember everyone is different.......wishing you good luck with everything and hoping for a very smooth ride for you and good speedy recovery xx
Hi Peacock62Just wanted to wish you all the best for Thursday. I found the actual op a lot easier than the first one and was up and about looking for something to do the next day! Everyone has a different experience afterwards but please try not to get disheartened if things are a bit erratic for a while. Keep practising your sphincter exercises (squeezing the muscles around your bottom as if you were trying to prevent wind escaping, hold for 10, release and repeat) as it’s sometimes better to wait for the urge to pass rather than making a dash for the toilet. I found it handy to have a grab bag handy with spare knickers, pads, wipes, soft toilet paper and soothing cream then I had everything handy. When my bottom got very sore I used the large wipes that they give you to wash with in hospital and disposed of them in one of my old stoma poo bags. Take it steady on the food front to start with until your Bowel begins to work again. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on?
Take care

So great to hear that your reversal is planned! Hope everything went well. Message me for tips!
Hi Everyone
Sorry to take so long to update it's been quite a rough ride, I had the operation as planned , but ended up staying in for 11 or 12 nights , I had I'm lllius and also had pnumonia which made me feel really ill. I was meant to be getting out of bed to excersise but couldn't because of the pnumonia . When my bowel started working I found the initial incontinence very distressing when I was finally let home I had the runs for 2 or 3 days the finally I had a small solid poo which initially I was very pleased with, but short lived due to the urgency and amount of visits to the loo , I can now go 20 to 30 times a spread throughout the day and night . I take Imodium and this stops it for a while. Getting the stitches taken out was a nightmare the nurse I think wasn't familiar with a purse string closure and prodded and poked around not being able to find the stitch and nearly opening the already painful wound I had to go to A & E to get it looked at, thankfully it was ok. I saw the surgeon a week ago and was told it sounds like I have LARS and was prescribed liquid Imodium and lactose for constipation. I am still feeling extremely fatigued but then I was suffering from fatigue before the op This morning I have woken up with what I think is constipation and my god the pain is acute any tips would be welcome. Sorry to anybody reading this awaiting thier reversal not everybody has these symptoms I just needed to sound off to people who understands as a lot of people think you are back to normal after this op for me it's a constant reminder
Thanks for listening
