  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  It’s such a shock especially when you are so young. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer 13 years ago and like you didn’t fit the expected stats!  Once you have a treatment plan it’s easier to deal with so make a list of questions. Bowel cancer found early is very treatable.

There are many people on this Forum who will help and support you!

    Take care!

Did yours get cured , what treatment did you have , misery asking questions  you dont have to tell me if you dont want to , my head just in a spin right now x

  • Hi

Yes it was completely cured.  It hadn’t spread but after surgery it was found to be in three lymph nodes and so I had chemo for 6 months. It was hard at the time but there has been no recurrence.  I was diagnosed with stomach cancer two years ago and it was very early stage so again chemo and surgery was given.  I am now really well and live a full life!

Happy to answer any questions you have.

Thankyou for telling me that and glad you all better sounds very similar to my situation I will let you now on wednesday what the consultant says to me thankyou so much I dont know anyone that's had it so it's all unknown to me xxx

  • Jane

I got through it by keeping busy and getting as fit as I could before surgery and chemo.  I walked a lot and did things to make me feel good! It’s good there is no spread and will make it more treatable.

Do let me know how you get on!  I will keep my fingers crossed you get a clear treatment plan!

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the board from me. I was diagnosed with Bowel cancer and will be 4 years clear in November. The waiting for tests and results is very stressful but once you have a treatment plan in place then things will feel a little easier. No spread is good news and Bowel Cancer is one of the most treatable ones. Please do not google! Stay on here and ask anything you like - there is nothing too daft or embarrassing. If you click on people’s names then it will take you to their profile page which may show their treatment so far. I hope wednesdays meeting goes well. Take someone with you if you can as 2 pairs I ears are better than 1 and maybe jot some questions down before you go - there will be a lot to take in. A colorectal support nurse sat in on my meeting then sat with me after and went through everything again and have me some booklets. I’ve attached a link below to a booklet about what treatment may be suggested which you might like to have a quick look at before your meeting. Hi I went today and it freaked the hell out of me about the op as he had tell me the what ifs this happens , its hopefully going to  be the 9th Nov , he is taking 2 bits of the bowel and said he will join it back up , and if it dose start to leak then I will need a bag and it will take about 6 weeks to heal then I will have chemo when I'm recovered from op, it's all so stressful taking all the information in then worrying about work my boss said take as long as I need and I will get sick pay , it's the way to cure it hopfully so it has to be done xx

  • Hi Jane

Please don't worry about the Op.It's called a resection....they just cut out the cancer & several inches of bowel, then rejoin it by staples or stiches. Yes, it is a major operation; however, it's a very common & straightforward procedure that surgeons do everyday. Leakage can occur, but isn't very common. Mainly, this surgery is carried out by keyhole surgery...which means just a few scars, which in my case, healed very quickly. My Op. was on a Thursday, & I was out on the Sunday. The surgeon has to tell you about all the possible risks involved before any operation.....It doesn't mean you will get them.

    Best wishes, Marian

  • Hi Jane

Glad you now have a plan. You will sail through the surgery I am sure as you are young. I remember my GP saying to me that so many people have that operation and are absolutely fine. It was so reassuring to hear that at the time.
It helped me to get as fit as I could before the surgery. I ate high protein foods and took lots of exercise.  Walking in my case!  That helped me physically and mentally to feel I was taking back some control.
I also remember thinking how can I have chemo so soon after surgery and again after six weeks I was fine.
Do use this group for support as it helps to hear the positive stories!

    Take care x
