Hi , 10 days ago I had a sigmoid resection to take out a cancerous growth , which was successful . Although I’m seem to be heeling nicely I’m scared to eat too much and In the evening I have terrible diarrhea which is more like someone turning a tap full on . This can last all evening until there is nothing left . I then don’t go at all until the next evening . I know it’s going to take a while to get to a new normal but I’m scared to be away from the loo after 5pm .
i guess I just need some reassurance
Hi Nelly
It's very very early days for you...My resection was May '19 & it was about 9 months till my bowels became somewhat 'normal' again. Even now, I can get bouts of diarrhoea. Did they discharge you with a dietary booklet? You might find that certain foods should perhaps be avoided at the moment. Presumably you have names of colorectal nurses that you can get in touch with anytime after the operation. Perhaps phone them? I found their advice invaluable for many weeks following the Op. However, meds. like Loperamide will help you at the moment. I think you should eat as much as you want to. (Don't avoid food because of this.)
Best wishes, Marianne
