Hello

I was diagnosed with Colon cancer and liver secondaries. After picc line treatments for 6months I'm on Capecitabine 4000mgs daily.

Does anyone else have experience of this drug? I was previously on Losec and wondering whether I should have this again to protect the gut? Also on Lymecycline and supplements.

Any thoughts, shares be grateful.

Thanks

Liz

  • Hi Liz...I'm currently about to start Cycle 6 of 3600mg of Capecitabine Tabs (no infusion.) So far, I've tolerated it well, slightly stiffened fingers/ hands...which I moisturise with Aveena & more tired towards the end of each fortnights' cycle. My Oncologist has just upped my dosage (2nd time,) so will no doubt see if that makes a difference.

  • Hello. Good to hear from someone else on it. Yes I use Aveeno.  Quite bad skin rash and sensitivity to the sun but Aveeno and Epimax very good.

Also fatigue as it comes to an end and also day after it stops for a weeks break! At least we know and can hopefully plan around it. Hope your increased dose is ok.

    Do you have heartburn?

  • Hi Liz, no, not noticed any heartburn so far, & I'm okay with sunshine. Overall, I find just the taking of the tabs. is so tedious...I have to get up at 7am & force a bit of toast down (not a morning eater!) Then having to remember to take the evening dose 12 hrs. later. Plus, the Tabs. are bloody huge!! Neutral face

  • GrinBlushScream they are. I don't always hit the 12hour mark. Banana and lots of water!!!

  • However Liz....I forgot to say that it's still a small price to pay....if the treatment is effective! I have 2 small Lung Mets...& 1/2 way through my cycles, I had a CT scan recently, which showed that the larger is stable & unchanged, but the smaller shows signs of shrinkage..so, that's got to be positive! Good luck on your journey....

  • And to you!!

It is a small price to pay. My recent ct showed good shrinkage. Now for liver mri....

  • Hi

I have had Capecitabine twice. Once thirteen years ago for Stage 3 Colon Cancer and two years ago for Stomach cancer.  Both times I tolerated it well with few side effects.  Both times the chemo did it’s work and I recovered well!  So good luck and hope all goes well!

  • Hello. That's good to know. Glad it's working for you. Thanks for message. It's good to hear from others who have had it as most visits to hospital are people having infusions.

I am on capecitabine 4x500g twice a day for two weeks after my oxaliplatin drip. It’s not as harsh at the oxaliplatin but I notice a difference to the way my skin feels and my taste buds. Only one to go and I’m finished this 6 month cycle.
