I am possibly having lung ablation on 2 small Lung Mets. that are in my upper left lobe> They are two small/ too deep to operate on. They are currently 5mm & 3mm....& I have just finished my 5th cycle of Chemo Tabs - Capecitabine Tabs. (No infusion) Due to have 3 more cycles.I have tolerated it well. I had a CT scan last week. The larger one is stable & remins same size, but the smaller has shrunk - & there's no sign of spread anywhere else in the thorax region.
& so, my Oncologist is getting in touch with Bournemouth Hospital to see whether I would be a candidate for Ablation. I have read up on the technique, which doesn't seem too invasive...however, have never seen it mentioned on this forum, so would be interested to hear of anyone that has had it personally - as to their experience & its' effectiveness.
I this is posted, I will be delighted, as I haven't been able to access the forum in anyway - since it was updated nearly a month ago!
Well done Marianne26 Good to have you back but so sorry you have had such difficulty.
Hope you are doing ok .
Radiofrequency Ablation was an option for my mum but the surgeon felt her lung met was in an accessible location . However her oncologist did state that there was very little to separate the outcomes between lung Ablation and surgery. She said they were giving the surgeons a good run for their money !!
It is certainly less invasive and something we would look at now if the need ever cropped up again .
Hope life is being kind to you .
take care ,

Hi Court, good to be back online again (It's taken me 24 days!) as you see, I can't stop posting/ replying...while I have the chance! Yes, as to Ablation, that's all that has been offered to me...as my tiny Mets. are too deep/ too small for surgery. Obviously, I would prefer the less invasive ablation treatment, but I've never heard of anyone here that has had it done...so was wondering about their experiences of it.It's obviously somewhat new - having started in the 1990's. However, what you said sounds good re. your mum's Oncologist.
Life is good....Thanks so much Court x
You post away . Good to have you back!
It is used quite a lot and on the liver too. Think it just depends who is around to at the time .
Hope it goes well ,
Court
