Hi All,

My partner had colorectal cancer 18 months ago. He has a stoma which told by his consultant would be in situ for approx 6 weeks. It is now 18 months and he is becoming very depressed having the stoma. He had a CT scan in February which showed he was all clear.

Geoff didn't have any pain for the first year but now is getting daily pain in the stoma, this is stopping him eating much because of fear of the pain.

Any idea's what the pain could be?

Many Thanks

Sandra

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear your partner is experiencing pain . I take it the delay in reversing his stoma is due to the pandemic.

If it was me I would be contacting his surgeon. From a brief look around it seems there are various reasons for stoma pain but the surgeons would want to know about it . Or contact his specialist nurse or GP. The fact it is putting him off eating is cause In itself . My mum developed adhesions without a stoma and lots of complications can arise . However he needs to know what’s causing it and how to treat it appropriately. It may even make the whole process move along for him .

Hope he gets a solution soon ,

    take care ,

  • Thanks for the reply Court.

Geoff had amazing care during his initial diagnosis, but unfortunately since the communication is very poor.

He phones the nurse, the consultants secretary and doesn't even get a reply. They are on voicemail. He has contacted his GP who wrote a letter but then the pandemic hit.

I have contacted PALS on his behalf and he just got a generic text saying he was still on the waiting list.

We don't live together so i try to support as much as i can.

    Many Thanks

    Sandra

  • Do you think they know he is experiencing pain ? That might change his priority if they have full knowledge of it .

I hope they do get back to him soon .

You sound very Supportive to him .
