Hand-foot syndrome

I finished my 4th and hopefully last cycle of Xelox a couple of days ago.

Yesterday the soles of my feet started “burning”. On reflection this syndrome must have started a month back when there was peeling on the soles of my feet. Plus week or so later on redness on the soles but no pain.

Have brought udder cream with urea to keep moisturised but has anyone any further hints or tips that will help.

Also how long will this last.

Have a telephone consultation with my oncologist early next week but would like a bit of help/information beforehand.

Thanks

    Hi Grand67

Not spoken to you before, so I'd like to say "hello"

Peripheral Neuropathy is probably what you have.  I developed it during treatment in 2012 and I'm one of the unluckily one that has been left with it BUT I had chemo over an eight month period, and hopefully your's will probably disappear gradually over the next few months.  For most people it does gradually disappear.

Research has shown that three month's treatment is as effective as six, and clinicians are more aware of the side effects now.

You could speak to your GP he/she may be able to prescribe something to help if you find that it is very uncomfortable.

I found that keeping my feet warm (even when they were burning) helped.  A hot water bottle or warm socks really helped.  Not something we want to think about in this very warm weather, but it did help me.

The Udder cream was the best cream I used and it helped with the cracking and the sore skin.

I hope that it disappears soon.

    Take care,

    VickiLynne

    Hello VickiLynne

Thank you for your reply it has been very helpful. I think It will be quicker to wait until I speak to the oncologist on Tuesday than to try to speak/see someone at my surgery.

I joined the group a couple of months back and although I haven’t posted anything before it has been interesting and reassuring reading the posts
