Hi my dad , aged 77 was diagnosed with rectum cancer in Feb this year after a 5 day intense course of radiotherapy it only shrinked the tumour slightly , it is also emvi positive.
Tomorrow he begins 4 cycles of chemotherapy called Folfox. Please can you give me your experiences of this treatment and how well you are doing now. I know each person is different aswell. Many thanks Claire x

  • Claire, sorry to hear about your dad.

I was diagnosed with rectum cancer 2017 and underwent radiotherapy and Chemo tablets, lucky for me my tumor shrank quite a bit and was therefore able to have an operation to remove the tumor, but because of where it was I had a permanent stoma, then had folfox chemo once a fortnight for 6 sessions, for me this was the worst part especially as I have now been left with chemo induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN)  for the last 2 years it is sore to walk on carpets without some thick cushioned soft socks and slippers, my feet and legs also cramp up.

Now everyone reacts differently to folfox but I don't think you are always made aware of all the after effects of the chemo drugs. A lot of people have no problems which is good and hopefully your father will sail through and it will help him immensely.

Fingers crossed all goes well for your dad make sure he keeps positive and smiling, take each day as it comes.

Thankyou for thinking of my dad . He has done amazing! He had chemo and radiotherapy before surgery to remove the cancer and had a iliostomy bag fitted last November. He then had a further two rounds of chemo and was given the all clear in March this year! June he had his stomach reversal and he is doing amazing. He has also put on over 2 stone in weight which was much needed as when he was diagnosed he was down to just 7 stone 5lb. I wish your mum all the best with her treatment and hope she has a great success like my dad did . Take care xxxx
