Hi, in 52 year old male,  pretty fit and active , Vegan for 2 and half years .. but recently I had been emptying my bowels 10 times a day .. ( usually 5-6 seemed normal for me for years) anyway... Dr suggested blood test .. came back ok for usual markers.... stool sample ordered .. got a phone call pretty rapidly... none visible blood in stool, we booking you in for colonoscopy within 2 weeks .. had Covid 19 test yesterday ( if I tested positive they still required me in) .. I'm now going over in my head changes I've experienced from feeling houghts of exhaustion and fatigue for years , heavy aching muscles, I dread waking up in mornings as have this all over body tremors ( not visible) but last for hours , 4 months ago I thought I pulled hamstring, rested for weeks ... then Osteopath suggested it was nerve/sciatic pain .. after 5 treatments he wanted to refer me for further investigation,  this was before my stool sample returned.. I'm quite calm and not worries ... what will be will be ... I've almost talked my self in colon/rectum cancer spread to impinge nerves ( which does happen) would really like some honest opinions.  Thanks

Easier said than done , but try not to worry, stress and worry plays havoc with our digestive system, the fact no blood is showing is a positive , it could be anything from IBS , colitis to chrones other than a cancer . Fingers crossed for a good result and glad it’s getting looked into

    Hi Kev

First of all may I welcome you to the forum.

What Noo says is quite right, it could be many things other than cancer, but once you have had the colonoscopy they will be able to tell you more and will probably want to do a CT scan as well.

Waiting for tests and then results is a really difficult and stressful time, but once you know what you are facing it becomes much easier to cope with.

I know it's not easy but try not to worry too much - as worrying won't change anything and try to keep busy to take your mind off things and hopefully the next two weeks will pass quickly.

I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2011, had surgery followed by chemo and I've had regular follow up colonoscopies and scans.  You will be sent  diet sheet for the days leading up to the colonoscopy and a bowel cleaning prep (with full instructions) to use the day before.  I always have sedation before a colonoscopy - as it can sometimes be uncomfortable - but if you do go for sedation you will need someone to collect you from the hospital.

Take care and let us know how you get on.
